Thanks for sharing.

What are your thoughts when comparing the two units. Not familiar with the 90ES, but 10ES is a unit that is still highly sought after, and appears to have a slight edge in build.

Power comparison? Weight?

gx10 is heavier, quicker, stronger, and slightly more detailed

gx90 while sounding very similar to the gx10 is a bit "creamier" of a sound.

gx90 is still no slouch in terms of power, its got some real punch to it when you turn it up but the gx10 is something else. the gx90 is rated at 120 rms per channel into 8 ohms with the gx10 being rated at 150 rms per channel into 8 ohms. from 120 to 150 watts technically wouldnt have much if any an audible difference, might just hurt a little more than before.. but the 10 can still just do more and i cant explain it.

The GX9ES ( not the 90) may lack the copper chassis and extra 30wpc as the GX10es, but sonically I've never heard any major differences when I owned the two units. - folks pay the premium for GX10es when the 9ES performs at the same level. must be the copper chassis or the pride in owning the top of the line from the series of it's time. Can't go wrong either way I suppose.

sure you can, you can spend 300 on a gx9 or spend 400 on a 1 of roughly 2000 gx10 that has had 30 years to narrow that number down a bit

already plunging a significant amount of money in some old ass gear instead of something newer and more practically priced, might as well get the one that will always be worth the most of a damn

the gx9 used a slightly downsized power supply and slightly different setup with the output transistors and is still rated at actually 130 wpc into 8 ohms

that reminds me of a gx80 i had for a week or two that was in protect mode when it arrived.. the only difference between it and the gx90 i could find was the color of the transformer, heat sink, and the chassis wasnt copper plated. it used the same output transistors, and the same size power supply. the transformer appeared to be of the same size and i didnt notice any difference in weight nor did i notice any difference in hardware used.

the gx80 is rated at 110wpc and the gx90 is rated at 120 wpc. im glad the gx80 didnt work though, i got my money back and a couple weeks later got the gx90 for an even better deal and not only does the 90 work, it came with the rosewood side panels:). not to mention it looks better and is the prideful TOTL lol

the gx9 is a nice piece but to be honest if i werent to buy the gx10 for slightly novelty purposes i think i would have put the same amount of money into an NAD integrated, rotel integrated, or even a rotel stereo receiver

I know this is an old post, but I just got a GX90, so to me.... It's relevant! :) The GX90 is wider by physically 40mm, has phono MC capability (if anyone uses or can afford to use that anymore), and weighs a little over 2 pounds more. The 90 also has a subsonic filter, and select-able frequency turnovers.

I had a GX80 (since gone) and doubt I can tell any discernible sound difference between the two except for the knowledge I have the best they made (at the time) in the GX90. If I need to color the sound, I'm using an EQ anyhow, so the select-able turnover does nothing for me.

It's interesting to note the GX80's footprint matches much of the other ES components and they all line up kinda purty when stacked.

Does anyone know if the GX10 has Preamp out/Amp in jumpers? I don't recognize them in the photos above, if so. To me, that would be a deal-breaker on buying a GX10 if it doesn't have those. I like to run a parametric equalizer "usually", due to my high frequency hearing loss compensation. Without one, most receivers sound a bit muddy to my ears.

Shame Photobucket is holding these picture hostage. They were beautiful and a great comparison.
This is my general opinion on any "cloud" sharing: :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:. What you do not have in your hands becomes hostage, sooner or latter.

Just purchased a GX10. Won't receive it till next week, mid week most likely. Any thoughts from anyone. I've read just about everything posted on line about it. Most of it from older threads. Would like some current points of views if anyone cares to comment. Thanks in advance. Believe the serial number was in the 1800's.

Does anyone in this thread know if the GX10ES would accept side panels from the GX9ES or any of the GX ES receivers? I have a GX10 that needs a panel replaced but want original ones.

I have a GX10 that was working well prior to a lightning hit on my ham antenna. The antenna was demolished and the surge also knocked out my well pump. Both the antenna and my den are located at the rear of the house and the location of the GX10 was about 15 feet from the antenna tower. The receiver was plugged in to a surge protector and the power supply fuse was not blown. Other equipment in the den - computer, monitor,CD player and tape deck were fine but the cordless phone was dead.

When the GX10 was turned on the main display worked for a few seconds then went off. There is no sound from the speakers but the lights on the controls work and the various inputs can be switched as usual. I would assume that the EMF from the lightning hit had an adverse effect on a chip or two. I would like to save this beautiful receiver and would appreciate any suggestions as to the source of the problem.
