Sansui TOTL Speakers SP-5000 and SP-5500 Side By Side?

Today I can say I have the proud owner of a set of SP-5500 and I testify that they are very very heavy......

When I was putting them on the Van I scratch one of the sides adding another scratch to the surface so I will like to refinish them, does anyone know what type of finish I can use ? it seems to be oiled walnut finish like Danish oil but not sure.

And one of the speakers sounds pretty low for some reason so I guess I will need to look on recapping and I have to say that for the first time the recapping is not going to cost me more than $50 CAD so I'm happy about the simplicity of the cross over.

They guy listed them at 199, then told me on the phone 250 then went I went to his house I gave him the 250 and said that he didn't consult with his wife?????? and that he will call me, then told me 350 and I said no and we end up in 300.....I think he start looking up in internet and realize the price was to low.

I think is the best deal after my two amps...I'm pretty happy.

Recapping on Friday and looking to get the materials to refinish them but I want to know the exact type of finish used in this, I could change it a bit like to a more cherry type of color but I'm not sure.

Any specific chemical strip ? I have some heavy duty paint removers but I think it could damage the surface.

One more pair of sp 5500s here in vancouver canada.
I run a pair of m&k s1 satellites with 2 m&k 12 inch self powered oak subs on an audire amp.
The sansuis on second amp.
Dbx 4bx and dbx120 sub synth and dbx project 1 on the mains.
Berringer ultragraph on the sansius.
I just dial the sansuis into the background so as not to overwelm on the vocals.
Beogram 6006 20cl.

Sounds beyond glorious.
OAK everywhere......all my speakers in glorious 70s oak.

Count me into this club. :)
I own a very clean, nearly mint pair of SP5000 that I bought in Vancouver, WA. They were listed on craigslist by a very nice guy who got them from his neighbor Vern, after Vern had to finally leave his home for assisted living.

Vern got them in 1972 while he was an Air Force pilot. They've been recapped and the sound coming out of them and my Sansui AU-717 is so incredible that my friends are coming over and refusing to leave. They just keep asking for more of their favorite songs. As a bonus the guy I bought them from very kindly tuned up my 717 when I went to pick up the speakers.

These speakers my wife calls, "pure pleasure."

Welcome to the club little brother (tongue in cheek) gotta love the huge sansui s.
Ya have no choice not like ya cant stash them in a closet or under the bed, there like the elephant in the room.

I have found this is the case with these big speaker. Guys in the army/air force where designated how much weight they could ship back according to rank. Pilots where captains and bought the big boys, my 5500 came from a captain.

I liked my SP-5000 better than the horns on the Sp-5500 as they where warmer and not as bright.
