What drives you nuts at concerts?

Some kid brought a pocket tape recorder into a Keaggy concert to get a bootleg. The squeal in the monitors and speakers killed the whole gig. Probably made the FOH go mad that night.

People that want to record the show on their camera's.

I personally don't think digital media should be allowed in shows. They don't allow lighters in concerts anymore, so there is a precedent.

In general, the worst behavior I run into is from people from my generation (was 18 in 1979) with digital media in their paws.

Anyway, the best crowds are always at Chamber music concerts. There is still some civility left somewhere.

Hey
1. People that talk through the show
2. Bad sound
3. People that won't set down.
4. $40. T shirt that are too small
5. Friends that's bail on me and force me to go alone.
6. $8.beer
That's pretty good start. I rarely go to live shows any more. If I do go it's usually a smaller venue. Eric
Dont forget-
Getting hit in the back of the head with a frisbee, guy next to you smoking pot like a freight train the whole time and people who spend the whole concert crapping on the show and telling everyone around them how much better this or that song sound at this or that show.

This would never happen at an Edmonton Symphony Orchestra gig. :D
I don't know, it be a rowdy town sometimes.:)

Two of the worst concert goer examples I've seen were at classical events.
One was at an ESO show. A bunch of us were waiting in line in the bathroom during a break, and an old guy walked in, butted right past everybody, dropped his pants to the floor(completely), and went to town. Lets just say his urinal aim skills were a little rusty.

The other was at a small group show at Con Hall.
One guy chatted to his pretend friend for a good part of the show. And then fell asleep and snored up a storm.
He woke up during the final applause, and yelled out, "Is the movie OVER?!".

LOL. Never say never, I guess.

I was at that concert! Somewhere I may have some pictures I took. Yes, flippen too HOT!
Well, there were the (two?) fires @ Comiskey Park (Chicago) during Jeff Beck's portion of a big day of rock @ Comiskey Park. It was hot enough already. Actually, the fire(s) didn't bug me so much and I moved ot a much better (viewing) vantage point in the outfield, not far from the right-center field wall.

1. People that whistle and scream during an obviously quiet song!
2. The last couple of concerts I've been to I find that some people think it's OK to engage in banter with the performer! Also, they seem to think the performer doesn't' know how to put together a set list! Just shut up and they'll probably get around to your song! One performer actually had to say "did you just request a song I've already played?"

The jerk behind us that kept yelling "Eruption!...play Eruption!!" through the whole Van Halen concert even right after Eddie had just played it!

The people that stand on their floor seats through the whole damn concert. Guess what, with everyone on the seats the view is the same just a lot less comfortable.

Too loud and and or distorted sound. Everything else is secondary.

Why still go?

This is exactly why I stopped going to rock concerts... decades ago.

Seems to me, rock concerts are for people that enjoy these things, not for everyone.

Most concerts say no photography etc. but people still do it. I have been to a local place, The Ark, and they will actually take people's phones. I think if people have phones with them, they should be checked at the door.
BS - I am an adult and keep my phone in my pocket -
its for my JOB, which pays for the tickets
- but some gatekeeper tries to take my phone??
Lets just say it won't go well ...

Toss the idiots trying to take flash photos from halfway back in the hall ...

Too bad 95% of the cell phone people are not like you. Most have them glued to their ears and whip them out to take pics.
Agreed - just bad manners and poorly raised folks.
My big annoyance is folks who want to have an ongoing conversation with their friends during the songs!
I don't mean a comment here and there, I mean a long player going full bore through the heart of the show!!
Throw them the hell out - let them talk in their cars and not disturb the other paying customers who are there for the show!!

Obviously--bad sound--I have done (off and on for decades) live sound--I even have a StageHands Union card--too many "wanna-be" engineers out there that seem to think clipping lights on the gear is part of the "light show". Louder is NOT always BETTER.

Bands that don't sell out and are obviously pissed or bored because they didn't sell out the house/venue and just don't put out the "effort"--they just want to get back on the bus and leave and it is painfully obvious to the fans that did pay for tix. Yeah, maybe your "stadium days" are over with--get over it and book smaller venues.

Bands touring with one original member--if I wanted karaoke or a bar band doing covers, I'd be at a bar.

Asshole fans (maybe fans) with free tix.--this is kind of a long story, but I went to a Patti Labelle show in Columbus, OH--the promoters had given all of the major radio stations in the area tix to give away as part of the promotions for the concert. Columbus has a very large GLBT community, and Patti has a very large GLBT following--especially with drag queens. Needless to say, there was a large GLBT presence in the audience, and a lot of drag queens in the audience paying homage to Patti in full regalia. She was quite impressed and appreciative of her fans--she knows where her bread is buttered. Not taking this in any political or moral debate/direction (so please don't delete this). Unfortunately, some of the free promotional tix had been given to "less than tolerant" people who chose to heckle certain people in the audience--she saw this and promptly stopped the show in the middle of a song, asked for the house lights to be brought up and security to escort out about half of the front row--announcing that "this is my birthday, and I won't have this--I'll do whatever I please to take care of my fans"--"get them out of here". Security handled the rest, and the show went on--she was taking no BS.

Going to see a band you've liked for MANY years, only to find out that 7 albums in they had a "hit" song played on the radio and half of the crowd is now soccer moms.
