MX110 MPX Stereo indicator gel and bulb

Anyone know the correct bulb # for the MX-110 "MPX Stereo" indicator light?

I couldn't find anything about how to access and replace this bulb. Does one need to remove the top panel (same panel to change out the EM87 eye tube)?

Also, if the "MPX Stereo" red gel is sagging on one side (so the text is angled) can the gel be taken off easily without damaging it -- and re-leveled and reapplied with some type of glue or contact cement?

Yes you will have to pull the dust cover, 6 small knobs with set screws first, then 2 screws on each side, and the cover should come off.
Original lamp was a #1850, though a #1847 will work just as well, just a bit brighter.

This LED model from Eiko replaces the 1847 bulb and can be purchased for $3.87. It's 2.4 lumens. Would this be a better choice?

It looks like the original 1850 bulb put out 3 lumens.

During the "Z" series MX110 run from 1963 - 1969, McIntosh made only a few minor cosmetic changes. One of those minor unexplained changes was the MPX Stereo indicator gel. Early versions (1963- approx 1965) had MPX stereo in red on a blacked out background. Later versions (approx 1966-1969) reversed that: (black text on red background).

Any idea on why McIntosh went to the trouble and fuss of making such a minor cosmetic revision to an indicator gel? Were the earlier MPX Stereo indicator gels hard to read? Or was the McIntosh design department trying to make the stereo indicator the same symmetrical size when lit as the EM87 tube, hence the red backlit rectangle in the later versions?
