MP3 is dead

Eh ... it's just Fraunhofer's "patents" that have expired. Which is interesting in that most weren't legally recognized anyway.

I just celebrated by downloading a couple new albums from Amazon ... <G>

"The developer of the format announced this week that it has officially terminated its licensing program."

NOPE ...

Gizmode-oh-doh had it wrong (click-bait ... them????)
Fruithopper has no right to license MP3 to anyone anymore.

The licensing was not stopped because mp3 is obsolete but simply because all patents on the codec have expired.
Since no one owns the rights to mp3 now no one can license it.

I have yet to create my first mp3, and now its dead?
[holds out hope for the same with cell phones]
