Sansui AU-11000

Hey Hyperion, i noticed you used some single contact molex plugs in your amplifier (looks like a combo of 3+1 in some instances, does this mean the 4 contact 1 row plugs don't quite match up?) though i can't see any available on those sites - are my eyes failing me? :)

They used to sell the 1 way (x1 row) crimp housings, but they were discontinued some time ago as far as I can make out. The pin spacing as you have probably worked out for an original 4 way plug (if they were available), should be 5mm---5mm---5mm---7.5mm, the wider spacing of the last pin as a polarising measure is the killer. So I was able to get the last few 1 way housings for my AU-9900, but I also discovered that you could 'make' a 1 way by carefully cutting off 1 way from a larger crimp housing - thus problem solved. So a 4 way can be made up using a 3 way and a 1 way as separate plugs. I hope this answers your question?

Aah I see where you're at now thanks for explaining that in greater depth. It's a shame they've discontinued the single pin connectors - seems unusual really.

So as for the depth of the plug as long as it's a Molex KK series it'll sit nicely on the pins I suppose?

Thanks, I'm excited to tidy up all these connections, I'm considering getting some black braided sleeve to tidy up wires too. Nostalgia from my days of building computers in high school and tidying them up.

Some replacement boards have arrived at work today, have a look at the difference on one of them compared to what it's replacing :)

Quick update, i've been busy moving homes but managed to have a couple hours to replace a board the other night.

Ive been reattaching molex connectors to get the amp towards being as original as possible, what parts are people using for the other pins when the originals have gone missing?

See originals here sourced from another AK post

Thankfully I have never had one of those go missing, so have never looked for a replacement, you might be able to find something similar that will do the job, but exact replacments may be very difficult to find, good luck finding some.

Uncharted territory! I will find something and report back. :)

These look like the sort of thing i'd be after but it difficult to understand if it will suit, second opinion would be great? :)

Alternatively here's a list of other potentials

Hi Sebastien

if the pins are 2.3mm diameter, then these may work (just measured a 717 - these ar 2.3mm dia, whereas the 519/719 I have are 1.6mm dia pins)

single housing

http://au.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/03-06-1011/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMuzXLcWrSfMr4AImWoNFp%2b4/gKbaEFoP6Q=

2.3mm crimp socket - there are various options for insulation and wire gauge, plus loose or reel.

this one would probably work ok, and has a gold plated contact area

I am placing an order on Mouser on the weekend, I might get some samples to try out - let me know if you want me to get some extras for you (as we are both in Au)

Cheers

John

Hey John,

Thanks for looking into that for me. 2.3mm looks promising, what would you use to insulate those? Whoever worked on this amp before just used plastic transparent tubing that slides over. Its functional but looks a bit average and has gone yellow.

On the Mouser offer - definitely that sounds great! If you direct message me your bank details I'll send over some funds.

Cheers
Seb

Hi Seb,

The first component linked is the plastic sleeve/insulator for the crimp sockets

I'll order some of each and will contact you re getting some to you. How many do you need?

Cheers

Hey John,

Aah okay perfect, let's say 30 with insulators. Can't hurt to have some on hand if that's too many. While we're at it I also need some molex kk series plugs, 5.08mm pitch, 2,3, and 4 way as well as the internal pins to suit to fix up other areas of the amp.

I can direct message you the part numbers and amounts and we can split postage if you like? :)

Cheers
Seb

Hi Seb

Yes, send me a PM and I will add what you want to my order ( and I am over the min amount for free shipping so it will only be local postage costs).

Wow, that's messed up !!! But you are making great progress. I agree with John about the molex spacing ,I had to do them ALL on a CA 3K.
If it was me.. I would start the " repair phase " in disconnected mode with a DBT in play.
GO SEB GO !
