Prayers for the Vegas shooting victims.

Before we checked out this morning, I grabbed a couple of photos. First one is from the room, of the concert venue.

And looking like a bad scar on the building, the window that the shooter busted out:

That is something I do not ever want to go through again. Just hearing it all was tragic enough--the shooting, the noise from the crowds, the non-stop sirens. Seeing the casualty numbers rise overnight just made it worse. We are now a few hundred miles away.

I should add that social media was its usual disgraceful self. I thought about firing off some comments myself to the rampant stupidity, but then again I don't need to stoop to that level.

Many joked that it was OJ. Seriously? Others were joking about other famous persons or criminals. Do we really need to joke about this right now?

Others were spreading false rumors of shootings inside all the surrounding casinos. Another tweet used a lot of ghetto language saying someone "opened up an AK right next to me." They all made it sound as though there were multiple shooters.

There were tons of false rumors and speculations. Some were newly created troll accounts. Others were self-proclaimed "breaking news" experts (yah, uh-huh).

As usual, there was also the "trial by social media" mentality raging hard for the shooter's girlfriend. Politics were flying also.

And the comments on all of this stupidity were even worse. Some were even calling out the Las Vegas PD publicly.

Social media truly is the cesspool of humanity. Seeing that shitstorm on Twitter alone was enough to make me sick.

I did a search and didn't find this thread and another AK'er pointed to me that there is a thread.

The most Evil, hateful and depraved act of violence is perpetrated against great Americans.

Its a terrible day in America's history.

Most of the media and others having no regard for those that perished and pushing their political agenda.

Horrible!

God be with all of those families who lost their loved ones and God heal all of those who need healing.

God help us!

Steve
People have become desensitized to violence. (Until it hits them.)

I can't remember EVER turning on the TV first thing in the morning, but I just happened to do so this morning and there it was, a reporter interviewing the gunman's brother. There are no words to describe what we're all feeling, especially those who survived with or without injuries and those who lost loved ones.

It seems as though most here are more concerned with their sound system, meaningless postings or Tom Petty's condition than the worst massacre in American History!

Horrible!

I realize this is a neautral forum but this is a tragic American atrocity, the worst next to 911 and its just as a normal day here at AK.

Terrible!

59 dead, 527 wounded as of now and 12 still fighting for their lives.

Wake up people!

Very dissapointed but thankful for this thread.

I'm seriously ready to ask the mods to totally remove me from this forum and erase all that I have tried to contribute because I don't want to have fellowship with such hard hearted, cold people who are more concerned with themselves and their silly hobby than what really matters most.

There are many good people here too and God bless you all.

As far as I'm concerned make it happen now and I'm out of here!

Steve

I'm sending you thoughts and prayers.

these mass shooting events seem to be more frequent and worse all the time.

does anyone know what was motivating this psychopath?

My prayers and condolences to all effected by this.

I've been to Vegas dozens of times and have always felt safe even late at night walking the strip.

So tragic.

wow, that's crazy....we may never know what drove this guy to buy a bunch of guns and open fire on a concert crowd.

i don't know why i think a reason will help.
We were trying to think of reasons today. It doesn't make sense. He did gamble, so we thought about gambling losses, and owing money to the casino. But if that were the case, he probably would have shot at employees inside. It wasn't job related--he was retired. Girlfriend problems? He'd have taken it out on her. Hatred for the music or its loudness? (It was extremely loud.) Doubtful. The only thing that makes sense is that he was acting out, as many of these mass shooters do, to make a name of themselves, even if they become martyrs in the process. And who knows if he was trying to follow in his father's footsteps on some unconscious level.

We felt safe up until this all happened. Not 10 minutes after we got into the Trop, the shooting started. Who knows? The way he was facing, he also could have taken out pedestrians on the walkways, where we had been only minutes prior. We actually had commented on the yellow-shirted security that patrolled outside New York, New York, and we also figured there were undercover police on The Strip as we never saw one uniformed officer during any of our walks over the past two days.

But if we want to talk about unsafe? Nobody could pay me to walk anywhere south of 8 Mile. Don't care what all the Detroit lovers say...we have both had too many bad things happen to us personally, and to family members, to ever trust going down there. I live in constant fear of something happening to my daughter, who goes to college in that cesspool city. Tried to talk her out of it, but you know how well that goes over. *sigh* There are very few places I have felt as unsafe in as Detroit.

Dang. Chill! :)

Nobody here said it wasn't a terrible thing to happen. Nobody is ignoring it. Hell, I witnessed the sounds and sights of it from a block away. Try to shake that from memory! Yet, life goes on. Nobody can just drop everything and fret over a tragedy 24/7. Even my better half's father and son were both begging her to fly home from vacation immediately. For what? To stay home from work, sit around the house, mope about it, under the false pretense of being safe? She works on the border of Detroit in the legal profession--any pissed-off hoodlum with a gun could barge into the office at any moment and cause problems if they didn't like the outcome of a legal proceeding. Her last career was even more dangerous; try being a bank teller only blocks from Detroit.

This could have happened anywhere, at any time. We have had this trip planned for months, and despite what happened, life goes on, we make the best of it, we keep the victims and families in our thoughts, but we are not going to let this immobilize us either--we are going to take advantage of this rare time off to make this trip memorable despite the tragedy.

Besides, many have been bombarded by this being in the media. They could use the diversion.

Good job not mentioning religion.

There has been mass murders committed throughout history, ever since there were tools to use to make it happen.
What can be done? I cannot think of anything that would be effective at this point.
Silence for those who were gunned down so brutally.

Education is the key
