John Kirby Quintet- Intimate Swing, Harmony (a div of Columbia) HL 7124- release date unknown, my guess is mid-50s. A genuine GW find on sale, 50 cents! If the cover gives the impression of slow ballad make out music, guess again. This is some hot jazz akin to Raymond Scott's music, only less discordant. I was was only vaguely familiar with John Kirby's band, most notably that Procope had played with him prior to joining Ellington. Genuinely a fun find, with titles like "Zooming at the Zombie" and "Beethoven's Riffs On", the record is a little scratchy, but a worthy addition.

Irene Kral- Master Series MRS 505 on DRG a 1982 re-issue of a 1962 AVA release.
Never skip the guy selling $1.00 LPs at the record show, he has some stuff he doesn't know about. This is a great LP by Kral and the Junior Mance Trio (Micky Roker and Bob Cranshaw) assisting.
