Richie Kamuca Quartet & Octet: Tenor Ahead

This is the second from Jazzcity that I've seen that features Kamuca. I've got a Shorty Rogers box set from the 50s by the same label. I need to hunt these down, they all look good. Would live the vinyl, but who knows how or where they exist.

Oh Wait! I forgot- money talks...enough money and they'd appear,;)

Retitled Josie Jazz Series 1962 reissue of Herb Geller's 1959 Jubilee release of "Fire in the West". Love hearing Harold Land and Kenny Dorham here. (I've seen a few Herb Geller records in the past, but now I'll be snapping them up when I get a chance :D).

The other day, I was talking with a coworker who is also into Jazz, and found myself in the position of having to defend so-called "West-Coast Jazz". It's strange to me that you could (or would want to—) make hierarchies of "good" music. Whatever...

Alto Saxophone – Herb Geller
Bass – Ray Brown
Drums – Lawrence Marable
Piano – Lou Levy
Tenor Saxophone – Harold Land
Trumpet – Kenny Dorham

That's crazy that there are still people who are into jazz, but go there with regards to "west coast" stuff.

I guess you could count yourself lucky that you at least have a co-worker that can have a conversation about it. All I've ever gotten when I talk jazz with people is something like, "I like jazz. But not the stuff that is 'be-blop-da-lop-dee-dwidley-dee. Do you know what I mean?". Ugh, not really, but whatever.

Back on topic, but how could anybody go all 'that's West Coast' with that Geller Album? That's a heavy hitter lineup.

To badly paraphrase Duke, 'There's good music and then there is the rest......'
