Here's a B&W shot with a discouraging story:

I took this shot with a Casio digital at EPCOT in 2001, and at that time I was in the habit of printing shots I liked and pinning them up on the side of my cube at work.

I printed it in black and white because I thought the color in the kiosk was really distracting from the geometry of the tent:

I got not one comment on the composition, good or bad. The only comments I got were "why isn't it in color?" :thumbsdn:

I got discouraged about posting any prints after that.

I see it different. I do like B&W but this photo in B&W the bottom portion looks muddled and the top geometric shapes lose out.
In the color version the bottom pulls you eye in and the top looks B&W and it's a pleasing juxtaposition. That's just.take on it
 
Some random abstract shots I took during a power outage, during a huge wind storm with winds up to 120 km/h (75 mph) from a couple days ago.
