Best (worst?) of both worlds / HT and phono

Oh boy, made some good progress! The ns333s arrived, got the bluray in the loop, and today I picked up a Klipsch ksw-12 for $75. It had a rattle which turned out to be a wire that had fallen out of place and was making contact with the backside of the cone. Tucked it back out of the way and no more rattle.

So for about the price of a "decent" HT receiver I've got a nice little system with plenty of headroom and possible expansion. Now just waiting on the new cartridge for the turntable, and really open her up!

Excellent. Now you are hooked. Used gear, particularly stuff with problems like a loose wire, can be a great bargain. Just try to keep the collection from getting out of hand over the next 10-20 years ;)

Yeah that's the real trick, isn't it? ;)
I cashed in a lot of chips with my wife bringing home a big floor sub, although she did eventually admit that it all sounds pretty darn good. To be fair, her only exposure to 'real' sound systems is a few friends and relatives who's approach is to get the biggest loudest stuff at Best Buy and turn the bass up so loud that that the dialogue in a movie is shaking the roof. I'm committed to showing her the true and right path :beerchug:

Now I'll have to stay off craigslist for a while just in case any more deals I just can't pass up present themselves

Here's a random question...When I hit the power button to turn on the receiver there's usually a small *click* as soon as you hit the button, then a slightly louder one as it powers on. Now, maybe 3 out of 5 times instead of a click it makes more like a *boiiiing* like a spring being flicked. Any ideas? Everything seems to be working okay.

Either your receiver has been taking viagra, or you have a dirty relay? It sounds like you might need to spray some Deoxit in the relay, to clean it up a bit.

Actually it was after I gave the internals a good going over with CRC contact cleaner that the *boing* (huh-huh) sound started occuring. Perhaps the CRC dislodged or shifted some gunk, I'm releived it's not some tell-tale sign of imminent failure or something. At any rate I cycled the power on and off several times this morning and just a nice solid -click- each time, so maybe the gremlins worked in my favor just this once.
