Malicious Attacks from AK ads!

Posting deleted - the man asked if you HAD a problem. Apparently, you had none.
44 posts and all the other verbage is rhetorical/anecdotal into, that frankly, others have posted months before, and gain us nothing now.

wow, shocking but sounds fishy.
I run Defender, on windows 10, nothing else. i click on banners, links, never had a single virus, trojan, intrusion attempt and I've never never ever had a keylogger or other malware 'accidentally' downloaded to my computer.
it sounds like these are infections but something posters got elsewhere :O
Image click redirects? That's so 2010.

Btw + IMO, Norton and similar are garbage. Microsoft/ Apple now have their security $#!7 together. When I had Norton last (2003), because it came as free bloatware on an HP laptop, I used to get notices that said Norton has detected a malicious program, which was Norton- and it was...it soaked resources and slowed everything down.

I'm going in! BANNAR Clickery-mode ENGAGED. Cover me!

ok, i get it. no disrespect meant.

here is the anecdotal results of my expirement:

i shut windows defender off,

was running 0 virus protection,

used a thin chromium based browser,

clicked every banner on the site 2x,

then restarted leaving the browser windows open,

on restart they repopulated.

i turned defender back on, ran a quick scan.

0 threats.

hi Zebra, your machine seems to be infected with some kind of virus now. luckily, if this is the case, there is ample information on the internet to, in most cases, manage this directly.

at this point, you can either seek professional assistance or try to manage it yourself but without action, this will continue to be an issue. failure to address this issue could result in permanent damage of your machine..in most cases, the symptoms are just indications of a progressively worsening issue.

i'm not a security professional and not suggesting you do anything specifically, but ((""IF YOU HAVE A PC")(if you don't, i don't have any experience withit- ignore the following quasi-suggestions and consider seeking additional help))

To start, it could help to update the security applications delivered by your OS, then run those programs. IF that doesn't work, I've also had good luck with downloading and running https://www.malwarebytes.com/

If you are still bork'd, which I'm guessing you will be, you could try going to here https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/ and follow the information on this website.

After reading a bunch, following the steps.. following more steps, literally hours for a bork'd machine.. you should be able to identify the malicious programs that have loaded themselves into your 'registry' and have the tools to eliminate them.

I haven't had to employ this process for years, so I can't give too much info on the newer versions and info but again, read, learn and clean.. or pay someone to do it, if you can afford it. Again, I'm not an engineer, I just know a little more than you do right now, from reading and hours spent. Read up and beat this thing.

If you have smart tech friends, you are lucky. Make them do it. Bribe them with good food or other things.. I would swear that everyone loves glazed donuts. if not, you will have to do it by your onezies, or shell out some duckets to another. it may also be the case that you need professional help, regardless of your efforts.

from my experience, cleaning infections is a process. once you know the process, in many cases, you are golden and golden is super bueno. i wish i could help more but I'm just a fuzzy jabbering sales monkey, who usually tries to be helpful, but sometimes gets it wrong.

Anyone who's security software stops an attack or redirect, would you please save the page and send it to me? Once you get the popup that a threat has been stopped, save the page (just html is find) and let me know you have it. I will message you the email to send it to.

He's not the only one having the issue and on it's face this statement seems to be unfair at the minimum.
Read it again and examine the context. Its about HIS WORK IT staff. Not here.

Its directed at that.

Happened several hours ago. A quick succession of pages began loading. Immediately began hitting the back (<) button which returned things to normal. Unfortunately, I was unable capture any information as I wanted to get out of the malicious feed ASAP.

Last week another thing happened where by I got the "nuclear meltown" alarm with a voice saying that my machine has been hacked by a pornographic site and to call an 800 number to resolve. Xing the page off wouldn't work. Cured it by shutting down and restarting. That was a scary one.

Running Chrome and McAfee here.

But I've had the same thing happen. I don't work at his company.

The idea that I am being made some kind of scapegoat by my IT department is ridiculous. Making light of my company's IT department capability is fine if that is the approach we want to take. He is not insulted. The key logger issue on my computer was traced to my activity on AK - no fuzz on that. I can even tell you what I was doing when it happened. I was attempting to like a post and it came back with something like " are you sure you want to do that". Literally 2 minutes later, my cyber security guy was in my office. A command and control app was installed that was attempting to call out to an IP in Russia.

In the spirit of trying to help, Chad has offered to explain what he saw from his side. Others may doubt his capability, but after seeing his certifications, I for one do not. I have since installed ad blockers and updated all my malware preventive software on my laptop and have had no issues at home.

Let 's be crystal clear on this. I am not trying to insult anyone's capabilities who help to manage this site. I am simply trying to offer any help I can help prevent this from happening again.

Peace

Ok,

Well you are the expert. AK is installing Keystroke Loggers because you say so and honestly IT is a SERIOUS ALLEGATION!!!

Mind you what you are doing is like screaming "FIRE!!!" but hey go ahead.

I am done even trying.

Erm...please do so.

Frannie, while your “IT passion” is admirable, thus far you have added absolutely nothing to this thread; with the exception of some off the cuff and unfounded knee-jerk insults to other AK members and 3rd party IT folk. So far, all we’ve seen from you here is a rant with completely unnecessary brow beating of innocent messengers with yelled incendiary accusations.

If this sort of rhetoric is all you have to offer here (as a well seasoned IT pro)…rather than some valid diagnostics and/or suggestions for Luther and the recently hired guns to combat this present AK issue, then from one IT pro to another, please do holster your sanctimonious pistols. At the very least, let’s refrain from attacking messengers and just move on. Clearly, AK is indeed having some serious issues combating an external invasion of sorts.

Should you have something of real value to advance the effort, we’re all ears.

Cheers and due respect,
David

Using AK is by no means a requirement in your life. Feel free to find another audio forum that you feel more comfortable and safe perusing. That said, I have been a member since 2005 and have yet to experience any of the problems you have described. I hope you get this sorted out soon. Cheers!

Its just the Irony that no one sees.

An IT organization professed as "Experts" had a trojan keylogger some how installed on a PC under their care is giving security advice.

I mean even the MOST rudementary antivirus and even the most simple securing should stop that. Yet this IT "Pro" knows that a server somewhere he has never been to , that he has zero clue how its setup , or zero clue what software its running is the root cause because of oh yah.

He has Certifications.

If you can't see how WRONG that is I can't help any of you.

I did try to help but got shouted down because apparently people seem to WANT AK's server to be the problem.

I think the staff here deserves better than to be compared to some faceless incompetent organization somewhere else.
