By the way - this Tympanon on the church is more than 900 years old, and the church as well...

More like hope and good luck. It's considered a (rare) privilege to have a stork nest atop you home, business, or any other structure for that matter.

In Germany (and probably elsewhere as well ) the stork is a symbol for a fortunate birth, and fertility in general.

get that the frig away from my house then! in the US, the squirrel nest is a sign of misery, pestilence and general bad moods!

I wonder if the old vlasic pickle commercials, for those old enuf to remember, linked to that cuz the pregnant woman supposedly wanted pickles and the stork itself looked kinda delivery-ish?

According to the Vlasic website, the spokesbird was chosen in 1974 to “deliver pickles since babies were in such short supply!” The national birthrate was dropping around this time, and Vlasic took this opportunity to capitalize on the trend. Taking the classic stork mythology and combining it with the belief that pregnant women crave pickles, they created one killer marketing campaign.

Well, we do have the beautiful Wood Stork! Saw one eat a 2 ft water moccasin a couple years ago

Update: A falcon stole one of the four babies last weekend. The picture has been taken by somebody who has access to the spire/roof.

The stork family has been attacked repeatedly by kestrels.

Saw a Sand Hill Crane eat a large King Snake, didn't know snakes were on their diet, also never saw one run so fast as when he/she spied that snake lol.
