I know you and I have a shared respect for the 2245. It's not my daily driver - that would be the 2325 right now. But I run my 2245 through Klipsch Fortes, which are pretty efficient. The sound is so pure and warm it will bring tears to my eyes sometimes. I have a new-to-me Bob Speece restored 1200 integrated that is going to replace the 2325 for vinyl play soon. Like I said earlier.....I haven't heard a bad sounding 70's era Marantz if it was operating properly.my 2245 and model 18 sound the best to me except when i want to blow the roof off with some AC/DC then my 2325 sounds (feels) the best
The 2220 is a sweet sounding machine when paired with efficient speakers. It may have modest power, but the sound is pure Marantz.View attachment 1179217 Picked up this little guy. Needed it like a hole in the head! Wanted to hear a 2220. Hooked it to my bench system. Avid two ways up front with PSB Alphas on the back. Running a Garrard Zero 100 through DAK preamp and and Dual 1219 through the 2220 phono. Other than a good cleaning, it required nothing. Nice sounding unit. Not a huge amount of power compared to Bob Speece’s overhauled 2245. But not bad.
I recently sold off most of my marantz receivers because I felt like I had too many and wanted to fund some separates. I've always wanted a 240/3300 and a model 8b.
I've owned and heard most of the 22xx line and my favorites are the 2230,2250b,& 2270. I might get some hate for this but I kinda regret selling my 2250b over my 2270. I sold all 3 of my 2230's. I regret not keeping one but these are quite common to come across. I also sold the 2220,2250,2250B,& 2252B. I kept the 2270 & a 2325 but I haven't listened to much of the 2325 since my JBL 4312A's are stored away.
However, over the weekend I traded some stuff to a friend for a project 2220B. LOL geez I think I have a problem.....
Did you ever get the 3300/240 combo?… if so, how did it compare against all the receivers you had the pleasure to hear?
Ps/ at this moment listening to my 3300/250m some ben webster (soulville) ... what a pleasure!
I still haven't gotten around to buying it yet. I still need to get rid of a few things to make space.
Model 19 does it for me. I am second owner, after receiving it I noticed a weak right channel output. I sent it in for service where it was completely disassembled, cleaned, etc. and all it needed was one resistor and one light bulb! It plays smooth and warm, very powerful and the scope is working well.debate usually comes to model 18 vs 19 -
some even say model 19 is the best receiver ever, period - regardless of brand.
My first Marantz was a 2230 with the optional (then $25.) wood case. I enjoyed it for many years. I could'nt afford a 2245 or 2270. I recently acquired another 2230 to add to my collection of 22 series because I wanted the first one that brought me into this amazing hobby way back in 1972. It sounds so good!I spent a few hours comparing 2216 against 2230.
Just to make the long story short, I have to crank up the treble to 3 o'clock on 2230 to reach the level of high frequencies on 2216 which treble is on 12 o'clock. The 2230 has fuller sound, while the 2216 is softer, more mellower.
