I have been retired for several years now (early, I got hurt at work) and since my wife worked right around the corner we have just had one car for her to drive and I had my old 73 Mustang to use when I really had to go somewhere. Well having the Mustang since 86 I sold it last week to a cousin of mine who really was dying for it. I loved it but it was time to let it go. BUT, my wife also changed jobs last month and works a lot farther away so I just wanted an old beater to run around in. After looking for a while I stumbled on a 2003 Taurus SE Wagon with 112K at a local dealer. It was sitting filthy in the back of the lot but when they washed it for me, I was stunned. It was the little old lady from Pasadena's car for sure. One owner on the Carfax with perfect paint and interior.....power seats, power pedals, CD player and puddle lights on the mirrors....so in other words, a pretty fancy 15 year old car. To make my usual long stories short, I got them down to $3300 and out I went. It is the perfect dog park transportation car and even has the jump seats in back.

We have had our Scion XB for a while now and we love it and how high it sits and how easy it is to get in and out of......the Taurus is a big change! Low slung where the Scion is like driving a toaster. It has the 3.0 Vulcan V6 so it is not fast but I put my usual K&N air filter in it and that helped a bit. Now to change the wretched stock stereo speakers in it!

Wagon's are great....can hold a lot of stuff....looks like you got a clean one!

I had it in the shop to put in Mobil 1 and new coolant and all the techs were walking around it saying how "clean" it was. I have been running errands all day and I cant believe how much I like it. I have not had a bigger car that rode really nice in a long time. It is a bit floaty but it actually corners pretty nicely being low slung. Also the wagons had the 4 wheel disc brakes standard while the sedans used drum brakes.

I bought some cheap Pioneer 5 1/4 speakers for the tailgate and I am going to put them in now......

I own a 1999 Taurus SE Wagon myself. My 53rd Birthday wagon. Nicknamed Il Toro Spazzo (Spazz Wagon). My wheelchair (a TiLite Aero Z rigid frame) fits in the back whole with the back folded. You have a nice wagon, newer and lower miles than mine. The 3 liter Duratec 24V motor performs well. My example has 177,000 miles and change on it now. Has hand controls fitted. Enjoy thy Bull! I love my Taurus Wagon. It's presently getting front brakes done, new ball joints, new tie rod ends, and a new fuel filter.

Mine has the Vulcan OHV.....155 rip snortin' ponies! I put a K&N air filter in it today and it made a little difference like they always do. Any little bit helps. We are driving up in the foothills this weekend for our anniversary and we decided to take the Ford and see how it goes. I read that for 03 Ford really worked on making the Taurus a lot quieter. Ours sure seems to be.....quiet and smooth riding with the 60 series tires. I remember when if you had a car with "60s" on it, you were cutting edge!

I swear that woody look is awesome, I wish it wood come back into fashion.

Some was tasteful some was eyeball searing. My Buick had the fake paneling.......and many a sports car only saw it pulling away from them. There was nothing more fun than spanking a Camaro in a Buick station wagon!

One interesting thing is that the sedans did not come stock with rear disc brakes, they were optional. The wagons had 4 wheel anti lock discs standard. Seems normal now but 15 years ago it was an upgrade feature for a family car.

Our Scion has 205 55 16s on it and I really want to get 60 series tires for it so it will ride better. This trend of huge (and heavy) wheels is getting really stupid. A nice 16 or 17 is fine for a family sedan or SUV. One should not have to put our a ton of bread for four tires on a family car.
