Very cool ! I like that little Crimson Trace unit, it`s the perfect size for that gun. Thankfully, there`s a good selection of compact .45s to be had these days. When I was shopping for one 25 years ago, the choices were REAL limited....I wound up buying a Para Ordinance P-12, which has just about the same footprint as a Glock 19, and holds 12+1 rounds of .45.
It wasn`t quite how I wanted it, so I bought a few parts for it, and hot-rodded it a bit. It has been super reliable and accurate ever since....

CT made that model specifically for the XDS. It fits well, holds zero just fine and it has a very powerful green laser.

While it's a bit of a handful, that XDS in .45ACP will definitely get the job done.

I have a couple of other .45ACP chambered handguns, both of which are in a 1911 configuration and I love shooting them. They are just a bit too big for EDC.

I need to make up my mind.... Will the next firearm be an optic capable 9mm or will I finally succumb to my lusting for a M1A Loaded from Springfield. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions... :D

If anybody is looking to build an ar, psa has some sweet deals right now. I ordered everything I needed for a complete rifle for under $400.

novice steps in again for more help. please and thanks.

The new air rifle, and pretty much any gun I've shot from off of the shelf have all had something in common,.. They're made for people a lot shorter than I am.
I'm 6'6", and tall from the waist up (long torso).
Whenever I try to sight a gun, I end up having to hold them with the gun butt mostly over my shoulder, with the bottom corner of the butt pushed into my colloar bone/shoulder interface. This is done so that I can get my eyes to the level of the sights/scope.
I did this yesterday while I capped off probably a hundred rounds in resighting my air rifle. I am literally bruised and sore from the fairly hard point of the bottom "corner" of the of the new Ruger butt pad, because I cannot get the gun to fit to my shoulder properly.

My point, and I've already sort of touched on this, Stand Off/See Through scope mounts. But, this time, not so much to allow sighting with the open sights. This time, I'm wanting to elevate the scope up higher than the mounting that is stock so that I can lower the gun butt down into my shoulder more. Make sense?

Is my novice heiner thinking correctly here, or, is there something else I need to look at?

@mkane
You mentioned in a previous post,.. that I should look into how to shoot a springer air rifle.
Could you expand a wee bit on how you do so?
I found that I needed to use a heavy hand in keeping the thing from jumping on shooting it. I was shooting from a steady table top, and a sandbag that I use with my audio recording rig. I felt that I I had to hold the barrel down firmly when shooting it

Springers don't do well off a rest. Most are made for light game hunting and require a firm grip on the forearm. When I was into bench rest competition all used a PCP which didn't require anything specific as far as how it was held. Get some high scope mounts. There's lots of custom mounts out there.

A couple of pics from my fun with guns episode yesterday:

As usual, I ended up packing more material out than in. I raked up some of the trash, a bunch of shotgun shells and brass, picked up some of the scrap wood and generally left the site cleaner when I left than when I arrived. This site is on state owned land and our local group works with the state agency to develop, maintain and upgrade a group of sites.

Had a good time and all the firearms performed flawlessly. In fact, here is my 90 yd 8" x 11" target using the Kriss Vector offhand (standing, no rest), using the foregrip:

I didn't sight it in for that long of a distance and I can see the .45ACP drops a bit ranging that far out but, heck, the bad guy is still dead, right? ;)

Too much fun.... :D

Opinions requested,..
.22cal long rifle bird shot rounds, and ground squirrels at around 30' max, more like 25'. Clean kill power?

and another question,..
gun powder and the threat of wild fires from the powder. threat?
the 30' shot has a firewood pile as a backdrop. So, I'm thinkning along those lines.

I've never found .22 birdshot worth a damn beyond 5 feet. Out of a rifled barrel the shot mass spins and is diminished fairly quickly.

I doubt you'd get more than a few pellets into target from 30'. Stick with a pellet gun.

Do both the spring type and NP types do that jump all over the place thing?
That is something that I wasn't expecting, and find to be very disappointing. By the time I had the scope sighted in, the rail mounting thumb screws had loosened, and needed to be tightened.
At this point, I have extreme faith in my silly little Crosman 2100 Classic 177multi-pump. I'm able to screw a pellet in right below their ear, consistently, with open sights. I'm only just barely able to hit target with the Ruger.

To the PCP type,..
Have you ever tried the hand pumps?
The PCP seems to be a whole other level of commitment that I'm not sure off, and that I know Sarge will get a wrinkled look on her face about.
I've been looking into them now, and, the entry level, with a high pressure hand pump, starts at twice what the Ruger ran. Beyond that, its a wide open expense.

For those exasperating looseninag screws, use a bit of blue LocTite thread locker. You can still remove the screws if necessary but they won't back out on their own.
