A nice and juicy G9000, AU-X1 or BA/CA comboI already enjoy it like it is but I can't help thinking, what can I get that's better.

Look herethen it requires a specific constant current diode which are now becoming very difficult to source.
Thanks Rick, I'll just order up a few of those then!!Look here

I have a AU-X901 on the bench. I'd have to say there is something special about driving a speaker using a balanced design. It is different than bridging
Yeah only available in surface mount for the mA that I need.......I could probably make that work though..Look here

Yes, the LM317 is a good idea, I have a draw full of them, or maybe a LM234 or something I have a drawer full of those as well in TO92 package.......hmmm, good stuff Rick thinking outside the box!!What part/SM package? You can make your own too. 2 diodes, bjt,R's. Your LM317 can be used, you can float it above ground
Earlier today I bought a Sansui AU-D11ii from AK member Jim. I forgot to ask him what his AK name is.
I listened to it at Jim's house and it seemed like a very clean sound. I haven't hooked it up at my house yet because I want to find a manual and read it first. If I think it doesn't best my 9090db I'll probably pass it on and work on restoring the 9090db.
You will really want to go through the AU-D11ii and get it restored, trimmers replaced etc, they are a very temperamental amplifier, I wouldn't run one unrestored.I got to spend some time with the AU-D11ii this evening. First impression is that it's a keeper. I don't have a switcher so I couldn't compare it with the 9090db directly but it has more detail than the 9090db and detail is something that I love. I like listening to softer music for the most part and I think the AU-D11ii makes that sound good. The 9090db hasn't been rebuilt but I don't think the AU-D11ii has either so both of them could probably be better.
Without a direct A/B comparison I think I'll have to give the nod to the AU-D11ii but only time will tell for sure. I'll probably keep both of them.

No more than any other amp, but its the resulting damage when it does though. High speed Direct Coupled floating bridge design.....Sound is excellent, but can be prone to a lot of damage when they do have a problem..I know any unrestored old amp can self destruct (I've had it happen) at any time. Is this one more likely to do so than most or are you referring to the sound quality. I like listening to it but don't want to risk any expensive damage.
