Filming myself

G'day Friends,
Just wondering if there's a digital movie camera around that would be good to film myself playing Guitar and singing ( jeez amigos,run for your lives ) ,with the idea of putting the footage up on youtube/facebook/onto a disc .
I'd like the unit to be able to reproduce good quality audio.. would the camera need to have a seperate mic ?
Would y'all know of something that would do the job for around $500/$800 ?

I think the audio is the most critical part. You could get an average camera and add a BeachTech XLR adapter.

Another option, my Canon A10 would be perfect for your task. Great quality camera and built-in 2 channel XLR connection with mic, line, phantom power. You can find a used one at the top end of you budget.

Most cameras don't have good built in mics and they are mono.

Thanks for the replies folks..
I'm thinking that the Zoom unit might be a good one to try... it's a pretty good price AUS$280.00 and it seems as though it would be a good introduction to home filming ...

Back in the day I used a Sony hi 8 stereo camcorder.

You may check with the media department at a local university or college, they may offer a loan program that is open to the public. Our local uni offers this, and the gear is pretty good.
