Gun Porn

Well, the $400 ar15 works good. The cheapo rear sight, not so much. 60rds, zero malfunctions. I ordered a sig romeo 5 red dot for it, and I'll get an mbus eventually so I have cowitness. I have named it Elcheapo!

Such as?? a serious question. please and thanks.
I've spent considerable time researching it over the last week. There are not a lot of inexpensive options in this platform, with the features that I want (want minimalist). What I've found hovering around the $200 and less category are very few; even ranging up to $300. I can easily find something from $350 and up, but, am not wanting to spend that, or even near that, for rodent removal.
And by that, I mean, as perfect example, my $60, hollow plastic stock, 2 pound, Crosman 2100 Classic, which has been a rodent popping monster; seriously, I've taken at least 60 in the last two months with that cheap hollow plastic .177 pop gun. The only thing I can fault it with is its lack of ability to handle a scope. It has a cast-in scope rail built into the receiver (two piece cast alloy receiver). But, the slamming action of pumping it up would destroy a scope. So, I've never had one on it.
The Crosman has been effective to out to 80'. But at that distance its a guessing game for aiming it with open sights.
What I need is a minimalist single shot, with the ability to shoot accurately, handle a scope, and be ranged from 60'++ to take up where the Crosman drops off.

We'll see. Its due for delivery tomorrow, and the hand pump is due the following day.

I looked at that one quite a bit. But, my budget doesn't allow for that (3x+ over my budget).
And, this might be a bit of an odd parameter, but, I'm really not into the multi-round magazine thing. A major part of my search was for a single shot. And that is a tough parameter to find in the PCP platform.

I hope you guys are alright with my pop gun talk?!
In researching the new .22, I found this for my Crosman 2100. Earlier, I posted a pic with my two-tone fingernail polish front sight. Well, this sight arrived yesterday. It required a change in rear sight elevation. In five minutes, I was whacking dead center again. What a major difference compared to the old sight!
It was a nice snug fit that needed the slightest tapping to seat it. It fit better than the original sight.

Nice find. I wish I could use open sights. My vision sucks so I'm stuck with optics. There is an advantage using a rifle with a multi-round magazine when the digger squirrel goes running.

My right eye has taken a few hard licks over the years, and is a bit fuzzy on that side; not bad, just not clear. So, I take a lot of non-standard shots with open sights, aiming with my left eye, and, everything else from the right (at first). Then, I started working on the ambidextrous thing, and, am now able to shoot right or left. My left eye is definitely more clear. I've made a couple of really long shots (for a pellet gun) from the left side.
It is still really weird feeling to go left, but, I no longer look like a complete imbecile trying to mount the gun to the left.

Well, i was going to try to hold out until I'd actually used this thing. But the hand pump just got delayed from the manufacturer.

And,... who knew??,... It came with it own mirophone capsule up near the muzzle! Total bonus (to a live music recordist)!!

The stock,... it actually fits my shoulder, without undue neck strain trying t fold my neck down to sight the thing.
It feels really solid. The stock is quite nice; perhaps over finished a wee bit, where they did a fogging of stain to cover the grain a bit (hiding imperfections I suspect). But I'm a retired finisher, and, know what I'm looking at/for in finishing, so probably being too critical.

#1, as out of the box
#2 - 2 clicks left
#3 - bottomed out rear sight
#4 @ 6 o'clock sighting
#5 went to Sarge, and she shot it into the hillside, just to see how it felt. She hated the springer kick; and loved this one.
#6 hit its mark in the form of a furry tailed rat.
#7 ^

#3 confirmed to me that it was sighted at 6 O'Clock. I sighted #4 at the lower circle intersect point, and, #4 hit pretty close to home. All sighted at 60'
This was as low as the rear sight would go. I like 6 o'clock sighting, and have used it well with my Crosman. So, we're good to go.

The gun barely shuddered on firing, but, is quite loud! I loved the lack of Mule kick from an air gun,.. huge bonus points!

Packed up the load out and took the wife to the foothills of the Coast Range for a little shooting today.

She got to shoot steel with her EBR (Evil Black Rifle) M&P 15-22, then she switched to the Ruger MKIV .22LR semi-auto pistol for some steel banging fun.

I played with some bigger bullets, .45ACP, 5.56 x 45 NATO and some 7.62 x 51 NATO.

Out first was my Springfield Champion Lightweight Operator. This 1911 is just so slick and accurate. It's like an extension of my hand and I was popping steel with it pretty quickly today. I actually looped the 4" steel disk over and around the 2x4 it was chained to. :D

Next it was the Ruger SR556.

And then it was time for some bigger bullets and out came the Ruger SR762

Saturday I have a date with another 7.62 x 51 chambered semi-auto, a Springfield Armory M1A Loaded. It belongs to a friend and he wants to try out my 762 and I'm gonna get some of that M1A goodness in return.

While I'm not much of a "gun guy," I do own a couple that I keep for home defense.

This was my EDC gun for a while, but it felt like I was carrying a cinder block...

My employment situation has recently changed. I'm an educational administrator, and our school is moving towards the creation of a school security department. This means that certain administrators (including me) will be carrying concealed pistols. I don't want to start a debate about this practice in schools. There hasn't been a general consensus about the type of pistol that we will carry, but it has been decided that we will all carry the same pistol. So I bought a HK VP9SK in advance to try to convince the group that it's the right pistol for the security department.

Good luck with the school security program. While I hate the fact that we need them, I am happy to see these programs go forward.

Thanks. I don't like it either, but it's simply a matter of economics. Our SRO (School Security Officer) costs $50K+ per year - while 5 armed administrators will only cost about $7500. With all the unfunded mandates our state is passing along to the schools, this seems to be the best route.
