Show Me Your Sansui!

20180630_181645.jpg 20180630_181651.jpg Meet the new babies...

Sansui 800 and Sansui 5000A. And their friends the SP2000s (#7 and #8)!

Gotta open them up to see what needs doing.

The 800 sounds great but I'm not sure when/if the electrolytics have been serviced and bias adjusted. Needs two original knobs, as a couple are obvious replacements, but for $50 I couldn't resist.

The 5000A was apparently serviced recently by a guy well known regionally, so I'm pretty sure I won't find too much out of order, but I'm kind of curious what, if anything, has been done about the notorious 1040 boards.

The speakers are about par for the course... I'll be using them as my "lab" set since the others are my surround system and can't be spared, but they are destined for a recapping and a thorough going-over as I'm not sure if all the drivers are working-- my experience with this model is that by now at least one driver has dropped out and needs to be resurrected with new caps (preferably) or eBay parts (if necessary).

Edit: And, as expected, the tweeters are dead in both speakers (though the "supertweeters" are lit), and I can see peering through the port that the original caps are in place (I know them only too well!). Recap will likely bring them back, from my experience, but I do have some spares. Work cut out for me!

Further edit: whoever serviced the 5000A deserves his reputation. All electrolytic caps in the audio signal path have been replaced and-- more importantly-- the 1040-1 boards have been replaced with 6013s. What a delightful surprise!

Hi - just a short intro of my gear. I purchased this over the last couple of months and I am quite happy with it. Still a lot to do and certainly a lot of questions for this beautiful forum in the future. Some minor items do not work, but I will make them work during the next couple of weeks :)
Its a QRX 5500 an FR 4060 and an SD 5050, all built in 1971 I guess.
Looking forward to some tips and tricks!!

More to come in the Sansui section....

I was looking for the serial # database and thought I would add this here.
