The annual Radiofest in Addison IL at the Shriners had a great turn out. Friday evening auction went from around 6pm until around midnight. Lots of great radios and vintage hi-fi. I've bought enough already this year, but did manage to grab a Kardon Strip radio from the 20's. Made by Bernie Kardon's father. In an interview years ago Bernie remembered being a kid winding coils on the kitchen table for his father's radios. RCA's ruthless legal thugs put them out of business so there aren't many around.

Club is non-profit and the public is always welcome to attend.

Hmm...yeah should have been a notice posted here. Will try to do better next year. Radiofest has been an annual event around these parts for as long as I can remember. I moved to Chicago from Indianapolis around 1990 and discovered it around 92 or 93. Before internet online sellers, it was a massive 3 or 4 day swapmeet with literally thousands of people coming from every state and several countries each year. A local Dentist owned a building downtown Elgin where he maintained his practice, but more importantly where he dedicated several FLOORS to his radio collection. Many one of a kind special sets such as Admiral Byrds outfit used in the Antarctica expedition were on display. During Radiofest buses would take people from the swapmeet fields to his building where the Dr would greet you and answer all your questions. He loved radios. Unfortunately Dr Muchow passed away, the museum was sold off, and swapmeet demand declined as internet sales increased. Radiofest survives, but now is a two day affair. The Friday evening auction has seen a lot of changes and has turned into a major event. And how many auctions have you been to where you can enjoy a beer or cocktail? The club also has smaller quarterly meets during the year. Dates and times are listed at the webpage. Membership is cheap and interest is growing in vintage hi-fi so if you're in the area it's worth a look.

Stunning selection of very clean stuff!

I've heard Dr. Muchow's name but didn't know that whole story. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely post next year. I have an old friend in Chicago, maybe I'll make the trip and visit.
