Gun Porn

Went to a gun show on Saturday and took my CZ p10-c and the M&P 22 full size auto to trade if I found what I wanted. There it was a Ruger Mini 14 NIB with the wooden stock for the best price I've seen. When inspecting it was Death Valley dry. There wasn't a bit of lube anywhere. It was so dry that the slide was dragging. So I cleaned it and went over it silicone cloth and lightly oiled the moving parts. Pretty easy to break it down after you learn what and where the fiddly bits are.

Now it's Monday and I have to try it out. Ran a 100 rounds through it and twice 3 rounds into a mag it failed to eject. I wouldn't say it's the mag but they were the only thing that wasn't cleaned. I'll do that tonight and dip a Qtip in some chrome molly lube and give the parts that rub together a light coat. Here's how it did shooting. I was sitting down with a bag at the front for support. Not great but not bad for the first time out. I had forgotten how much I like peep sights but 64 year old eyes with floaters and bifocals won't help your group size. There'll be a Nikon P-223 3-9x40 BDC 600 Matte added in a short while to help my tired eyes. I already have the 22LR version of the scope on my CZ 455 and it's a dandy. here's a picture of the target. Fun gun to shoot. The two FTE don't bother me as I think with use it will quit.

Top right is 20 rounds at 30' to get the feel.

Then to the bottom left 20 rds at 60' the adjust sights bottom right 20 at 60' looked pretty good

Now to the middle right at 75' feet it opened up but that was me the middle left as fast as I could get back on target.

Did it come with scope rings? I think I know where the ones I took off my mini 30 are if you need them.

I have one of those with the black synthetic stock. I have a bunch of 1" thick Micarta (phenolic) sheets, and a local gunsmith needed some for a project, so he swapped me a NIB Mini-14, with a nice scope he mounted on it. I've only put about 10 rounds through it, but It's a keeper.

I was wondering if that was bigger...

And yes you just cleared that up!..

Lol wow!

The one I'm holding also isn't as robust as the actual load outs. This one I believe was one of the rounds used by maintenance to test function. That's why the finish is weak, to show chamber and extraction marks clearly. On the plus side, I was assured this one hasn't been in contact with radioactive rounds.

If you look to the right of this photo, you'll see a wooden cartridge leaning up against the wall. That was a training round used by the military. It's the exact same size and weight of a real round used to teach new recruits how to operate the gun. Years ago a place in Oakland called Bonanza Wholesale had a bunch of them for sale that they got from one of the local military auctions when they disposed of them. I also have a few 20mm dummy rounds that were also used for training. Most of that stuff has since dried up at the surplus auctions.

Time for some mid winter shooting sports!

Picked up a Sig P938 which is a cute little 1911 style 9mm semi auto and is a 7+1 sub compact and has a metal frame. It weighs 18.2 ounces with an empty mag and when you carry it in the case you feel like you need to check if it's there because it's so light. You'd think there would be a good chance that it would uncomfortable to shoot but that's far from the case. It was on the bulls eye from the get go. Here's a photo of the first 4 mags I shot. By far the fastest gun I shot well and the Taurus G2C was pretty quick to catch onto.. First 2 were at 15' and the 2nd 2 were at 21' I then used the laser. Last night I got it as close as I could shining it on the wall and lining the laser up with the sights and through pure dumb luck it was so close at 30' I left it alone. This is a great little pocket or ankle gun. A little pricey but the laser was included. I consider a good buy.

First 4 mags 15 and 21' iron sights

My employment situation has recently changed. I'm an educational administrator, and our school is moving towards the creation of a school security department. This means that certain administrators (including me) will be carrying concealed pistols. I don't want to start a debate about this practice in schools. There hasn't been a general consensus about the type of pistol that we will carry, but it has been decided that we will all carry the same pistol. So I bought a HK VP9SK in advance to try to convince the group that it's the right pistol for the security department.

Just an update:

Our School Security Team decided to adopt the VP9sk. I'm very happy about this, as I qualified with a score of 481/500. My instructor looked at me in the middle of our qualification session and said, "You could've just mailed your scores to me and saved your time." I felt really good, as I'd only put a couple boxes through the pistol before we went to the range. It's definitely the best shooting striker-fired pistol that I've ever shot (sorry, Glock)...and probably the best overall. If you're thinking about buying a new pistol, try one out. You won't be disappointed.

But now that we've been given our certifications by the state, it feels kinda weird carrying a pistol to work.
