Vintage, Klipsch, turntables R2R

Ive decided to recondition and rebuild a teak console my father had made by a 96 yr old craftsman in Okinawa back in 62.

Originally it had an Akai R2R, Receiver and turntabe with huge speakers. Unfortunately all the components were lost over the years so I am educating myself on vintage audio.

Today I bought a pair of Klipschorn speakers and a Yamaha M85 amp for $900.00.

I plan on stripping the white paint off refinishing and veneering in Ausyralian walbet to match the 70th Anniversary edition Klipschorns and modififying the crossovers, diaphrams, tweeters etc to match as well.

Im considering purchading a Kenwood KR9600 receiver, Pioneer 707 R2R and eventually a turntable.

Any advice, tips are welcome since I am a neophyte

Daniel from Eagle Rock. Hello:)

@bleu. I noticed you're in eagle rock. Rad. I just joined this forum today and am looking for people in the LA area who know how to fix vintage receivers / speakers from the 70s. I have a pioneer receiver xs 780 and as Bose 901 II. I recently moved to Chinatown and my set up was working just fine, but I came home from the break to discover that it's not working. Know of anyone in our area? I've been reading up on it and I think I may have found the issue. I don't mind paying someone, I'm just tired of getting ripped off at places like Solution in Silverlake.

Howdy, neighbor! I'm off of Seco Cyn up past Copper Hill. I'll have to come by and rummage through your vinyl some Saturday.

i am now in the sand canyon area of the santa clarita valley. i would like to see some of you guys at the LA/OCAS (http://www.laocaudiosociety.net/) where you should be able to find me at any of the meetings. check the calendar of events. many times two or more of us will carpool to the meetings that are many times in orange county or other distant destinations. we can meet at the newhall ave park and ride.

we also sell rekkids out of a friend's garage. one could always message me on facebook at my real name-tom roy.

I really should change my name from David_NC to David_CA... I moved from NC to central OC - Santa Ana, specifically - about five years ago. Most of my equipment is still in NC, as this relocation is taking longer than expected, and I currently have less space to for my stuff than I'd like. Still, I enjoy my vintage stuff and have some shipped to CA occasionally and pick up 'new' treasures here from time to time.
Equipment interests are varied - open-reel decks (Panasonic and Otari), cassette decks (Pioneer and Teac), receivers (Sansui, JVC, Pioneer, Marantz, Luxman, B&O), turntables (Dual, Pioneer, Technics, B&O), integrated amps (Marantz and Kenwood), preamps (Sony), and more, I'm sure! It's about 50-50, in terms of things needing some love and currently properly functioning, but that's all part of the fun.

One of the long time Lansing Heritage members is coming up from Aussie-land this Friday (Jan 19th, 2019). We intend to have a dinner for him and listening party that could occur on Fri, Sat, or Mon. The day/time is not set yet and will depend on responses.

For those who would like to join us, we are thinking about any of the following three places all located in Tustin. All are easily accessable from the 55 Freeway. We are thinking about:

Mimi's on 17th Street at the 55 Freeway:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...alifornia.html

The Citrus Cafe on Redhill at Edinger:

http://www.citruscafe.com/

Or El Torito, also on 17th at the 55 Freeway

https://www.opentable.com/r/el-torit...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I would like to get an idea of those who would like to attend and their restaurant preference so I can make the reservation. Please respond no later than Thur., Jan 17th. You can respond here or PM me directly. Let's make an evening of it!

We are in the North Tustin (Cowan Heights) area of Orange County.

For listening our offerings include:
JBL L200/300 variants
JBL L112's
JBL/Heil "Ethyl Mermans" (2241H/2251J/AMT)
Altec "Big Red Supers"
Chartwell LS3/5A's
RSL 3800's

Who knows which and how many we will get too, but you are welcome to bring your favorite selections on CD/SACD and DVD-Audio. We spin an Oppo-95 through a Yamaha RX-Z9.

Ruben from Temecula wine country!

I have been enjoying all my older gear, while I spin 60's and 70's classics.

Currently I have systems setup, my McIntosh 240, with a Harmon Kardon Citation preamp and Pioneer HPM 100's are connected to that.
The music room has the Pioneer SX-980, Pioneer PL-518 and a set Klipsch KG3.5 speakers.

It's Great to see this group on Audiokarma. I keep an eye out for more post.

Hello all, coming to you from Huntington Beach. Can’t believe it has taken me this long to find this place... geesh... @hifitommy I will visit the sight tonight and see what next one I can attend. It will be nice to talk to some people that don’t give you the puppy tilt head look when they ask what my hobby is... :rflmao:

Anyway, I love all of it... I have a preference to the HK 730 sound... I have an SX-1010 that is my sweet spot but needs a total recap. Don’t look forward to that... love me my ADS L1590’s... and L1090’s. Records I spin on my Empire 398 and ROK N-34h and a Technics Sl-1500 when I’m lazy... I enjoy open reel, and even have cassettes. This might sound stupid but... I like my Miles Davis - Kind of Blue on cassette. Have it on CD 1997, and a 6 eye vinyl but for some reason love the shimmery warmth of the cassette. I know, I must be high.

Would love for someone to put together a meeting for just AK’rs AND why not a solder workshop that we can share tips and tricks on recapping, and the like... maybe a recap 101. I know I could use it. Nothing better than fixing it yourself with the right help and guidance. Not so intimidating when someone there to show you hands on. Man, I would love that...

Geez, I have rambled. Talk later guys!! And maybe gals!! Love it.
