Marantz's answer to Sansui's G-22000, then Pioneer fired back with the SX-1980, then Sansui fired back yet again with the G-33000, and then Marantz fired back with the 2600, and then Technics wanted to end it with their SA-1000. Thus ended the Power Wars of the late 1970's. The 2500 is one of the most sought after vintage powerhouse receivers to this day, fetching much more than it's original MSRP of $1,750 in 1977.
