One other thing on the CR-800 - the speaker connectors. It is so very easy to not get the ends of the wires into proper contact with the ones they used,

I have seen CR-800s with grounding problems, you must have seen all the black wires connected at the big filter caps. With the power off use an ohmmeter with on lead connectd to that ground cluster and probe all the other ground points on the various boards.
