  • Hello,

I saw you posted a problem 2 years ago that you were having with your SL-J1. I think I am having a similar problem with my SL-J2 that I bought new back in the 80's. Did a new linear tracking tonearm drive belt fix your problem? Here is how I describe my problem:

I am trying to use my Technics SL-J2 direct drive, linear tracking turntable after storing it in the basement for 20 years. It seems to run fine, but I am having trouble with the linear tracking tonearm. It plays the first 2 or 3 minutes of an LP fine and then it starts to skip and not always at the same spot. If I forward it past the skip, it will quickly start skipping again.

I listened to the unit with no volume on and it sounds like the motor that forwards or returns the tonearm is turning on for some reason.

I already cleaned off all the old sticky lubricant that was on the drive pole and oiled it with 3-in-one oil.

Please let me know how you solved this problem. Thanks!
