  • Hey David. Been a while. I've been tied up figuring out how to take care of this new little person in the house (don't get me wrong, she's a sweetheart!). Hard to find time for AK these days. I wanted to stop by and brag a bit. I just ordered a copy of Extremes self-titled LP from a shop in Kansas City, along with an Elektra pressing of Queen II. They're labeled EX and VG+ respectively, so we'll see what happens. I also managed to get a copy of Pornograffitti from a shop in the UK. It turned out to be a Danish(?) pressing though and was without the last track. A bit noisy as well. The same shop also had a 45 of Song For Love with a cover of Love Of My Life on the B side. A fairly interesting take on the song. Last but not least, my local shop owner found me a sealed copy of Jim Steinmans Bad For Good solo album. I just couldn't believe it!

And how are things out east? Did you pick up the new Prince set? Drop me a line when you get a chance. Hope all is well!
Thanks for the nice info. It sounds like you love what you are doing like I do. Keep an eye out for me I will do the same to help you. I have been lsitening for over forty years now. I grew up wth vinyl and like all of us got side tracked with CD's. Now I am doin things that bring back nice memories of my records. I love Blues and VERY good jazz expecially quality pressings. Feel the same way you do about it!
The copy of Rave is actually really cool , very happy with it sounds killer! when "greatest romance" kicks in with those vocals it's pretty cool ......it's a 2-lp set , I'm not sure if it was just a promo-item , or i almost have been thinking you may have been able to buy it through his fanclub , i was a member years ago & that may have been sold through his online store ..... i saw a copy of the "symbol" album on vinyl (7 , morning papers etc.) it sold for $10 , kicking myself for not getting it ...
Yeh I don't knwo why they put all those beeps on the Queen live album , kinda a bummer , i have "night at the opera" as an audio dvd which is pretty cool , it has videos for every song & there is a commentary track about the album from Brian & roger , i too love news of the world "spread your wings" is among my favorite songs , that John deacon could write , i just got Jazz on lp & he wrote that song "In Only Seven Days " which is a nother cool song .
So how's that copy of Rave? I didn't even know it was released on vinyl. I spun Live Killers today. I forgot that they censored the intro to Death On Two Legs. I'm gearing up for the song to start, and all of a sudden this BEEP BEEP BEEP jumps out of the mix and smacks me across the ear drums! I almost fell out of my chair! All in all I have to say that News Of The World remains my favorite Queen LP though. I need to get my hands on a copy of A Night At The Opera. I can envision Prophets Song as a real vinyl treat!

I also got the replacement for my 180 gram pressing of Bat Out Of Hell this afternoon. I'll have to wait till tomorrow to play it though. It's going to be loud!

Drop me a review of that Rave LP when you get a chance. Very dry production on that album, so I can see it potentially sounding great on vinyl.

    All the best!
How's my east coast cousin? I haven't been about much lately. Baby due at the end of the month, so I've got to get the nursery painted up and ready! I was curious how your copy of SOTT came out. I got my vinyl in and parts for my tt, but broke the green lead while installing the new cart. Haven't had a chance to sit down with it since. Had to send my 180gram pressing of Bat Out Of Hell back due to a corner damaged in shipping. Always something...

By the way... It occurred to me recently that my stepmother is originally from Worcester. She actually comes from a rather large and old Italian family. Great stories about her grandfather and uncles. Lets just say nobody messed with her when she was a little girl. Anyway... I knew there was some sort of relation. By marriage, on the "vinyl side" as you put it!

    All the best!
I did manage to straighten the armtube thats coupled to the Ortofon
    OM40 cart.
Its up and running, and I'm listening to it for the first time!
Sounds fine... interesting even. I just need to fine tune the arm
adjustments a bit, after ordering a weight-spacer thingy to go
in the counterweight since this cart is SO much lighter.
Its a piece of plastic that subs for a lead weight.
No point in fine tuning till I have that, but it sounds bascially fine
    even now.

The other thing I did was to "fix" the knife-edge bearing while
I had it apart to inspect.
They were a little ratty and I managed to correct them, thru a tricky
    process.
I'll spare you the details... unless you have need, in which case,
let me know and I'll get em to ya.

Thanks so much for your help and well wishes!

    Hi David...

I just thought I'd let you know how things worked out.
I decided to let the thread die out, since the topic got covered
and we 2 were the only ones still following it.

I'm refering to the Major Distortion thread about my SME arm
    & AT cartridge issues.

Well, it turns out that the AT has a busted stylus... only visible
with a very high power glass.
Its not broken off.. just extremely irregular/jagged.
I'll get a new one when I can muster the $109.
(More in the next PM.. size limit)
    Greg
