  • Hi dextervon,

If you can implement the bucking transformer with a 6.3V drop, you should be about right for the 117VAC input and the filaments will all thank you for it with longer life.

I looked at a GE data sheet for 6V6GTA. It has ratings that are higher than 6V6GT: 350V plate, 315V screen and 16.2 watts total plate and screen dissipation. The 2199B is running the tubes right at these values according to Sam's schematic. If you are worried about trying the triode connection, you can increase the cathode resistor value to reduce the quiescent current a bit. If it were my amp, I'd just try it but I don't want to be the cause of worry and destruction for someone else. Have you measured the plate and cathode voltages?

Since I have other tube amps available, I haven't been to anxious to restore the 2199b until I find a mate for stereo.

My home email is fergusons at comcast dot net if you'd like to have more conversation.

    Best regards,
    John
