Be aware that the entire cartridge is rebuilt when it has reached its end-of-life (for a hefty price). I would only buy an unused (new) Koetsu if it is not from an authorized dealer. If the cartridge is used, there is no telling how much life is left.

That's a ADC-XT cartridge. It looks like the stylus assembly is the same that fits the low-mass bodies (XLM, QLM) so there are plently replacements that will work with the XT model.

Never make a purchase based on the recommendation of someone else's ears.

This is the muting switch disengaged. The two prongs on the left are not touching the longer prongs on the right which allows sound through the audio cables. When the prongs touch eachother, it's shorted out and there is no sound.

It's underneath the chassis. Lift the chassis from the base and turn it upside down (remove the platter and secure the tonearm before flipping it over). There are two prongs where the platter rotates. When the arm lifts from the record, the prongs short out the audio cables and then...

Check the muting switch. It may not be stuck and not disengaging.
