  • The Philips preamp I have is the 5721. A really good preamp that few know about. Those who have them are really impressed with them. The average price is in the range of the Crown IC150/150A and DYNA PAT units that are true dogs. The preamp was quite expensive when in production.

On the back of the H-K there are sets of jacks labeled preamp output and main input. The is a set of jumpers going between them. Pull out the jumpers and connect the preamp output into the main input on the receiver. If you want to use the receiver tuner, you can run a set of cables from the tape output on the receiver to the tuner input of the preamp. This will also allow you to use the receiver's aux input and phono section also if you want as the tape output is before the receiver volume control but after the phono preamp and switching of the receiver. Great for adding a couple of more sources.

If the preamp seller has the matching power amp and tuner these are also well worth getting.
