    Motorola SKR154 3 Channel Amp HS-1198 Amp

Sams folder says 1.6 A input, so 2A slo-blo would be about right if you have to replace the breaker (I've had a few bad ones - the last Moto 3-channel was one).

First Time Tube Amp Re-build: 1958 Sears Silvertone Console SE EL84 / 6BQ5

That chassis number is not listed in Sams - there may be similar ones, but there's really no way to find them. And models 9316 and 9316T are not anything close - one has a receiver chassis, the other is a powered speaker - but model number would be on the cabinet, not chassis.

2 meg volume control is the load for the ceramic or crystal cartridge - a 100K would be better, to reduce loss of treble due to Miller effect. ( Though the loudness compensation makes up for that somewhat) The .005/3VK is protection against overvoltage (and treble reduction) - always used in...

    Strom Communications APH-1100

8"? RC was their prefix for PA speakers - my 1950 catalog stops at RC-57. I have one of those "wedge" enclosures - cost me a dollar without a speaker.

    Choke substitution in Dynaco ST35 - 2.0H vs 1.75H

Even 1Hy would be an improvement - the ST35 didn't have one originally. 2 Hy is fine if it fits.

    Tubes with Grid Leakage

And some tubes may show gas at first, clearing up after a few minutes warmup time.

    Olson ra-655 mess

Yes, I've seen wirewound resistors with melted ceramic coating - sometimes with evidence of fire nearby. I take it that is the 220 Ohm resistor? A tube with a shorted screen or a shorted cap may be responsible. BTW - the chassis layout drawing for the SAT-300 on Radiomuseum appears to be an...

    Help identify this radio

RCA owned the patents that everyone used, so a label mentioning RCA patents doesn't tell you much. I think there's a name at the bottom of the dial. Brands on the tubes sometimes point to the actual brand name. Sometimes there's a a label inside or on the bottom.

Potted Ouput Transformer- Is it PP or SE UL ??

Transformer inductance also changes with signal level, increasing at low frequencies up to the point of saturation, so low-frequency response could be better than a low-level measurement would indicate. And DC current also affects inductance, though this effect is reduced by gapping the core...

Let's hear your horror stories and close calls!

First job after college was a bench tech at at a 2-way radio manufacturer. And started working on RF amplifier assemblies - the final tubes weren't installed, and no 800V present, but there were a few components with 250V on them. And I would always find them with a conductive tool. which...

Potted Ouput Transformer- Is it PP or SE UL ??

50% UL ratio is not uncommon; in fact it's optimum for some tubes. 100 Ohm screen resistor makes sense, 100 Ohms at the center-tap of a P-P transformer does not. This plus the relatively low inductance point to a single-ended design. Connect a variable DC supply to the primary and measure...

Anybody ever modded a 6BQ5 amp to use 6094s?

Needs more negative bias - higher value cathode resistor - than 6BQ5
