Think I might have just scored my holy grail pre...

Unfortunately I leave town for a business trip tonight and won't be back for a week so I won't get to really play with it just yet. I'll just have to load up my phone with some more preamp porn pictures to hold me over! :)

Ugh. That sucks. How long are you going to be gone? What's your address? Keep a spare key hidden anywhere?

Wow, I have been watching this thread. Even though I have not chased any gear for a few years now when I first seen this thread I got a bit jelly. I then found the auction, looked at the sellers feedback and got very nervous on your behalf. Congrats, very well played !!

Yes looking at his feedback I knew it would be a huge dice roll, that's why I made sure the transaction was through eBay and paid via PayPal. I figured if it went south I would still be somewhat covered in the end. I exchanged a bunch of messages with the seller before pulling the trigger, and based on his communication (very nice but IN ALL CAPS AT ALL TIMES) I concluded he was a good guy overall and worth a shot. It was still a nail biter for sure.

I must say his communication throughout was great, he packed it very well and shipped it immediately - in the end it was one of the smoothest eBay transactions I've ever been involved with. Needless to say I left him positive feedback!

If the seller caved so quickly, he must have paid a pittance for it. And when he finds out he could have bought a decent car with what he should have gotten, he will be regretting even more. Oh well, knowledge is power.

Yep...

Assumptions are the mother of all screw ups, if the guy knew what he had ! But I'm glad you got it just for yourself... What are you going to do with it ?? I assume you have other time period equipment simular to this !

I'm going to try it out with my Marantz 8b and Quad 57's first, and eventually try to hunt down a pair of Fairchild monos to complete the family.

What's this replacing? Didn't you have an MX110 in your rig now? Interested in hearing your thoughts on the differences.

Wow! That is really, really cool. I don't know squat about Fairchild, but it looks like a pair of mono preamps with a common chassis, front panel, and controls.

I'm looking forward to your impressions of it.

Also has a Juicy Blueberry. Would like a comp with that as well!

Yes I have an MX110 and a JM Blueberry Xtreme. They are both great preamps in different ways so I'm not sure either will be "replaced". I use the tuner on the MX110 way more than I thought I would, so I'll probably keep it for that reason alone. The Blueberry is a wicked pairing with the 8b and has a fantastic phono stage, will be interesting to see how the 248 does there.

Is JM out of business? cant seem to find their website anymore
Let us know how the new pre compares - enjoy!

Will do Sancho - it will ake a bit of time to get her up and running but I can't wait for a shootout either. I'll update this thread or start a new one when the time comes.

The owner/designer of Juicy Music, Mark Deneen, is now fully retired and no longer in business unfortunately.

Ah, that explains it fro JM. I will await patiently the restoration - keep us in the loop!
