Hi, All.
I'm looking for a new stylus for my M75D. Any M75 fans out there who can help with a suggestion?

Thanks

It’s mounted on a Dual 1229. I have other carts too - Stanton 681 & Shure M97xe - they’re all ellipticals. Listening mostly to rock and psychedelic music with a little be-bop and bossa nova. But really looking for any suggestions you’ve had a good experience with. The M75 is surprisingly detailed with the elliptical it has now, but it’s coming to the end of its life.

Thanks for the quick replies.

stereoneedles.com has genuine Shure replacements - N75EJ Type 2, or N75HE Type 2. I believe these fit. With the price difference, you're probably better off just sticking with the N75EJ.

For around the same price (or maybe a bit cheaper) after shipping, a JICO N75ED/2 from jico-stylus.com would also be a good option.

There are also cheap styli available at thevoiceofmusic.com - the such as the EVG-branded 4760-DED, however these are not constructed in the same way as the original Shures and JICO replacements, so you may not be satisfied if you are looking for the sound you are used to.

Good find!

Yes, the N75EJ is probably the best match for the Dual 1229 tone-arm. It tracks between 1.5 and 3 grams.

As an alternative to an OEM which may have aged somewhat, the JICO N75EJ is the best out there...

I know NoTransistors runs ML140HEs on His 1219 and 1229, so I figured the higher-compliance styli were a good match for the tonearm. Is it considered medium-mass?

I think so. I’ve always tracked mine at 1.5g so the stylus you have seems to be for a higher compliance tone arm. I’ll ask Seth. I’ve been trying to meet up with him so he can service my 1229.

The Shure ML140HE has a stablizing brush which allows it to track properly in a medium mass arm. Same goes for the current M97xE.

D'oh! Every cartridge I use on a regular basis (including an ML120HE) has that brush. EJ stylus it is!

Can anybody identify this stylus? It actually sounds pretty good. It came with another cart, and I just tried it out. Nothing on it identifies it tho.

The brown colored grip would indicate a copy of the Shure N75ECS...

The N75ECS was the M75 version of the N44E stylus. The two are not interchangeable though.

Is the grip asymmetrical when viewed from below?

It's also much brighter than the original. I wouldnt say that it's harsh, but it doesnt have that signature Shure warmth to it. It's actually quite detailed - much more than the m97xE that I have. Very punchy top to bottom (good bass) on the 1229.
