I have an older A T 440 mlb that I think is starting lose it's clarity. I'm looking at the New A T VM 540 2m, or the Ortofon 2m blue both at pretty close price. Dose anyone know witch one would be better sounding. I read the Ortofon 2m blue gets more db gain?

Cartridges are like speakers, they offer different sound for the system. You like your 440 with its peak in the high end, then the new at might be the ticket. You can try the Ortofon for a change of pace and see if you like the sound of Ortofon.

Replacement styli for the 440MLa/b are readily available--if you liked it, keep it and just buy a new stylus.
