What was the last movie you watched?

2/3rds of the way through 6 Below

This movie is criticised as being boring. The subject matter really doesn't lend itself to a Luc Besson style car chase nor a Coen brothers script with a cast of characters. I wonder what the critics expect from the real life experience? Don't expect War And Peace. Watchable.

In Cold Blood (1967)
(Robert Blake, Scott Wilson, John Forsythe)

After a botched robbery results in the brutal murder of a rural family, two drifters elude police, in the end coming to terms with their own mortality and the repercussions of their vile atrocity. - IMDb

I saw this one many years ago and it was on again last night on TCM. I had forgotten just how great this movie was. After a while, you don't even notice it was shot in black & white.

Disturbing and well-made movie.

Excellent book as well. Capote was a superb author.

Best Regards,
Michael

"The Lady Vanishes" (1938) A superb Hitchcock film, with elements of comedy, mystery, and high adventure. A young Englishwoman is travelling across Europe by train, and makes the acquaintance of an older woman, who suddenly disappears from the train, at which point, the "how" and "why" aspects begin to take form....this is the stuff that great films are made from !

The Horror of Party Beach (1964) MST3k version.

What a howler, it's part Beach Party, part Creature From the Black Lagoon.
Two thumbs up for Mike & the Bots, zero for the movie, though it's a great bad movie!
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The 2013 remake is also quite well done.

Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves (1991 / 2003), (Morgan Creek / Warner Bros. 23780), dvd, Two- Disc Special Edition - Extended Version

A movie for the now - back in 1991.

Staten Island New York (2008), (Why Not Productions / Europacorp / NEM NEM-DV-9BB), dvd, upc: 652405000996

Better than expected. The three main actors carried this one...

Overdrawn at the Memory Bank (1983) MST3K version (the only way it's watchable)

Absolutely horrible movie that was shot on video and made for PBS, somehow they got Raul Julia to disgrace himself long enough to star in this turkey.
It has all the trademark awfulness of 80's low budget Sci-Fi, the crappy digital effects, the synth soundtrack, giving everything a futuristic sounding name, usually ending in Tron or Tech.

MST3K gave it the roasting it deserves.:thumbsup:

"Torn Curtain" (1966) Political intrigue, in which an American physicist (Paul Newman) pretends to defect to East Berlin, in order to obtain a critical missing piece of a puzzle from a brilliant German scientist. Julie Andrews is excellent as his fiance`. Another Hitchcock masterpiece !

"Oblivion" (2013)
A slightly different vehicle here for Tom Cruise....in the year 2077, he is Tech #49, Jack Harper, whose job is to repair and maintain attack drones on a nearly-demolished Earth, after we barely won an intergalactic war. Jack begins to question his mission after being confronted by Morgan Freeman, leader of an underground group of freedom fighters.
Probably a bit longer than it should have been, but interesting nonetheless....
