Ever wonder how it is that some music artists seem to have a knack for being prophetic.
Here's some examples, the first being Frank Zappa's "I'm The Slime" released in 1973. If your not familiar with it it's a song about the media in particular the news media. The lyrics that really resonate with me in this day an age 24 hour media, social media etc are as follows:
"I am gross and perverted. I'm obsessed 'n deranged. I have existed for years, but very little has changed. I'm the tool of the government and industry too, for I am destined to rule and regulate you. I may be vile and pernicious, but you can't look away. I make you think I'm delicious, with the stuff that I say. I am the best you can get have you guessed me yet? I am the slime oozin out from your tv set.......... You will obey me while I lead you and eat the garbage that I feed you until the day that we don't need you Don't got for help...no one will heed you Your mind is totally controlled It has been stuffed into my mold and you will do as you are told until the rights to you are sold"
In my humble opinion he couldn't of known that someone would create the internet and eventually social media but when he says "Until the rights to you are sold" I think it he totally nailed it especially how big data stores and profits off our internet activity.
Another somewhat prophetic song is called "Casualties of War" by Eric B & Rakim, written in 1992 after the Gulf War. Told from the perspective of a soldier there's a lyric that goes like this:
"So I wait for terrorists to attack every time a truck backfires I fire back I look for shelter when a plane is over me remember Pearl Harbor? New York could be over, G kamikaze, strapped with bombs no peace in the East, they want revenge for Saddam"
Pink Floyds "Welcome to the Machine" 1975, in my opinion was very much about the surveillance state and even more so today with cameras & microphones everywhere, computers, tv's, street corners, smart phones etc
"Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been"
Rush "Temples of Syrinx" is another one too
"We are the priests of the temples of Syrinx Our great computers fill the hallowed halls"
I'm just curious as to what songs other people know of that seem prophetic.
