Sansui 1000X going rate?

Any thoughts on a good price to pay for a Sansui 1000X?
Working and pretty good cosmetics.
They're asking $150 but they always deal here.
Gonna check the DC offset now.

You realize that the outputs are capacitor coupled and DC offset is irrelevant unless the caps have DC leakage. It also has to be measured with a load attached. Nice deal for $50, even if it needs service.

Ha!
No I did not realize that.
Should I be concerned that there is DC voltage present without a load or is this just garbage readings?

Thanks.

Mike

It's actually quite low for no load, though I think there may be some internal medium value resistors just to keep it under control. No worries.

Doing a thorough Deoxit and cleaning of the faceplate and knobs. Super clean inside. Not a lot of openings for dirt to get in.
I noticed when you switch to Phono or Aux the dial lamps go off. That's a shame because it looks nice lit up. Wonder if there's a simple mod to bypass that and keep the dial light on in all modes.

There are bypass mods for the 9090 series, so I'd imagine there's one for the 1000X. $50 is a great price--$125-150 is fair market value as far as I know. These are very underrated receivers. If you post in the Sansui Forum I'm sure someone there can figure out how to keep the lights working.

Thing sounds tremendous so far.
Got it at a place I frequent that does estate type cleanouts. They have a mill based warehouse where they sell the stuff they cleanout. This was listed at $150 but the owner always jumps down to half the tag price if you start haggling.
Currently listening to a $50 Sansui 1000X through $30 KLH Model 24s I got at the same place.
Life's alright tonight.

Definitely going to look into a lamp mod as it's too pretty to not leave the lights on!

I feel ya KJT. I just cleaned up a seriously neglected 1000x and am pleasantly surprised and pleased at how well she came back to life. So far nothing but heavy doses of contact cleaner, deoxit, and tuner cleaner, along with some Restore-A-Finish for that beautiful wood cabinet, and I'm not sure if any recapping is even necessary. Listening through phones right now but it sounded great through some Minimus Pro's in the workshop. I guess I'll pair it with my unrestored $40 KLH 17's to really share your "bargain bliss". I'll post some pics later.

Hey Tom.
Currently using the 1000X with a pair of Canton Karat 120s I got from a fellow AKer. Like it so much I'm on the hunt for a bigger cousin. The volume pot is a little hinky at low levels so I might yank it out to try and clean it a little better. May consider replacing it. Hit the tuner cord with beeswax as it was getting stuck.
Definitely made a Sansui enthusiast out of me.

All the pots and switches were a mess on the one I cleaned up. I could hardly turn the bass control knob. Volume was at a whisper on all inputs. I thought for sure this was going to need some tech repairs in the pre amp section. Listening through some Nova 7b's now this is surely going to obsolete a little Technics SA 301 as my go-to low power receiver. Pics as promised:

Very nice. Tape Monitor switch was gunked up but cleaned up nice.
They really do sound nice and they're only entry level!
Working on getting a 7070 to up my game.

I get a tiny amount of bleed thru from the monitor switches but not enough to be concerned. It's diminishing as this thing "re-breaks in". Dead quiet from open sources at max volume I got real lucky with this one. Sansui's are usually overpriced on the used market IMO so this is the first one in my "new recent collection". Since I got this as a "lights up but no sound" unit I guess that definitely works in my favor. I'd say we both scored!
