Gun Porn

When trained on the Garand it was always referred to as the M1 and the carbine was always referred to as the M1 carbine.

Now where's that perfect M1A I'm looking for??? I gotta find one... :)

The M1 is a Select Grade, I'm restocking it with a Dupage stock today, the M1A is an early 5 digit all Winchester and the Colt is an early All Colt. I have bayonets for all. I'm putting the original stocks from the Garand & M1A into boxes and setting aside as I tend to be rough and they are all shooters seeing regular range time.

Here's my new rifle, ordered it in October 2015, just picked it up last month. Shiloh Sharps 1874 Sporter #1, chambered in .45-70. Has a whole slew of upgrades, the nice lady at Shiloh Rifle was more than willing to show off all the available options. Has MVA buffalo soule long range sights, 30" heavy octagon barrel. I set it up to be a long range competition rifle. It's a really great shooter, we have a blackpowder range with steel targets ranging from 385 to 1000 yards. Hit the 385 yd all 4 times, the 775 yd buffalo 2 out of 3, and 1 of 2 on the 1000 yd 4' square target. It's absolutely addicting to touch one off, get hit with the blackpowder smoke, wait 6 seconds, and "CLANG!".

That's what Shiloh calls "Extra fancy" wood. They offer a hand select option, which for some reason I didn't do. But I couldn't have picked a better piece of wood myself.

Jailtime,

I bestow upon you the first EVAR !

For posting up one of the finest rifles ever seen on Audiokarma :beerchug:.

Thanks for the tasty looking cookie! :D This Sharps thing gets in your blood, I'm already working up an 1877 build from the catalog.

I have an old Savage-Stevens single shot 12ga that had one of those stocks that they coat with a thick coating of stain/varnish combo that gives the stock a plain orangish look. It was all scratched up, so I took some paint stripper and steel wool to it. Took me three of four tries, but the wood underneath was really pretty. I gave it a few coats of boiled linseed oil and left it plain. It's buried now, but when I dig it out, I'll shoot a photo.

Me and my brother just inherited my fathers 2- M1 garands and his 2- M1 carbines. I'm not a big gun type person but I do apprieciate him giving them to me. He already gave both of us m1 carbines about ten years ago. My brother loves it, as he is into firearms way more than I am.

The case-hardening and stock figuring is, um, well, spectacular! I mean "Wow!", "Gosh!", "My Golly!" spectacular.

There is a local museum with a great early firearms collection. In it is a set of mid 1800s, apparently unfired, as new condition cased Colt revolvers. Their finish looks like that.
