Sony str 6045 cracking sound

Hi, wondering if someone can assist me trouble shoot this. I’m getting an intermittent cracking sound coming from both speakers and headphones. I’m not adjusting any pots or anything, it will just start cracking. This will be on all inputs, aux, phono, radio. What could be the issue? Thanks

Power supply.. Do the lamps flicker when its crackling ? ( power switch arcing )

bad transistor is likely in power supply . can you record and post a sound clip ?

Or maybe a cold solder connection in the DC supply.

i think its arcing somewhere . check fuses for corrosion first .. or look at the dial lights and see if they are also affected .

Only 4 transistors.

Lamps don’t flicker from what I can see

hair drier and freeze spray might be your friend here .
how random or regular does it happen ?

I would say once a week for extended periods. I listens for an hour today, it was fine.

heat related then maybe .... possibly invoke the fault by adding heat then cooling one power supply transistor at a time .

What method do I use to heat transitors?

Ok, so I guess the technique is to heat all the transitors in the area since they are close together. And freeze each once till you hear the cracking?

yes . or freeze until cracking stops

Hey. Had to bring this up again cause I never gotten around to it before. This problem seems to only be in the right speaker. It will loudly crackle as soon as I turn it on. Turning the volume does nothing. On all input channels

Try cleaning your speaker select switch...
