Adcom GFA-6000 power amp, thrift store find.
Power button lights up red (good thing).
Looks like it was well taken care of, no scratches or dents minimum dust inside (good thing).
Need to hook it up this weekend (cross fingers).

OK!!
Hooked it up to a pair of speakers last night turned the input's to max low and plugged a CD deck into it.
Both 100w channels work!!
I noticed the right rear positive speaker terminal had what appeared to be glue around it after taking the lid off it's super glued inside.
Must have been hit at one time and broke the plastic frame, missing the rack mount plugs for the screw hols on the left side (no big deal).
All the damn hex head screws came off except one right rear corner, it was stripped will deal with that later was able to slide the cover to the side.
Very little dust some clumps of dog hair fairly clean compared to the close dryer filter lint covered Yamaha i created a thread about.
It looks almost pristine inside now, no leaky caps no funny stuff inside.
Will get it hooked into my system within a few days preamp is my Rotel RSP-960AX processor EQ Audio Control C101.
Now for the Amp porn..:beatnik:

Man, if you wanted a sweet 7.1 setup, you could run this for the center+surrounds and power your mains off of a 555 and have a really bangin' all Adcom setup.

Yeah good plan but i am a simple guy old school with limited space as well.
Just needed more octane to push the JBL's and the RSL's it will level the playing field with the extra kick.
My little Rotel amp can't stay below the hump with these big speakers, when i am at a little over normal playing levels at two to Four o'clock i needed more power.
Lets see how this amp preforms fully set up.

When you say the hump do you mean the class A -> class A/B switchover?

Looks to be in primo condition! Hope it checks out.

Yes the condition caught my eye right off, ridiculously clean condition.
The sound so far so good sounds way bass heavy without the EQ to the point you can hear the woofer on the RSL laboring.
Bass is set to almost zero on the EQ, plenty of power that's for sure it's a complete different sound from the Rotel.
Not as articulate is a way of putting it.
The high end bite lots of folks talk about with Adcom i don't hear it, actually sounds fairly good but not as sweet.
The thing is built like a tank.
What i guess i am referring to as hump is the Rotel going past two o'clock on up to get the speakers to come alive, the Adcom i am running at eleven to twelve o'clock.
These RSL's and JBL L-40's like that juice, my KLH model sixes are happy with the Rotel.
I have to play with different speakers and Disc players to see who likes who.

My experience with Adcom amps has been good, GFA-555, 545,535 to me they all sound great and have been trouble free. I don't know about the newer series multi channel amps.

You have gain control on the Adcom, so who knows if you can compare output settings...
Adcom user manual recommends turning the gain controls all the way up, i may mess with them to see what the results are lowering them a little and try to calm things down a bit.
My Rotel has gain controls as well but had to bump them at full, i don't have the model number but it's low watts.
I wanted to buy another and mono block the two for each speaker output.

The 6000 is a solid HT amp, miles ahead of the amps in most HT receivers. I used a 6000 with an Adcom pre/pro when I had an HT setup, and it served me well.

Well after hours of toying around swapping speakers setting EQ settings and trying several Disc players.
I am swapping back to the Rotel, the Adcom has the push but not the preciseness of the Rotel.
Just blah sounding with no fine detail.
When i run a set of speakers no matter what they are through the RB-930AX they sound great never had one set sound bad unless the speakers sucked.
The Adcom was picky on speaker swapping, just cant bond with it.
Happy! Happy!
