Gun Porn

This is a Marvel Precision long slide in .22LR for a 1911 frame. The concept behind it is a long, iron sight radius that goes back to earlier days of bullseye shooting. The ultra-dot scope was mounted later with a piece of picatinny rail that I roughly fitted with my first mill.
It couldn't hold the x ring at 50 yards and was eventually relegated to the excellent plinker category. Plenty of fun to attempt an 8" steel target at 70 yards.

Picked up a holster for my Taurus G2C. Aliengear Shapeshifter 4.0. Very versatile modular system and incredibly well made. I just put it on and there isn't much of a print so far it's very comfortable sitting and walking. Most comfortable I've worn but time will tell.

Wore it all day yesterday. You don't even know it's there sitting down and you only notice it walking because of the weight of the gun. No pressure points to irritate and the fabric is much better than leather against the skin. No sweat at all on an 84 degree day. This is the best holster I've had and by a goodly margin.

Picked this up yesterday for a pocket carry gun. Ruger LCR 38 special +P. Amazing trigger and it only weighs 13.5 oz. Didn't do bad on a 50 round test run and recoil isn't a problem. I think the stock Hogue grips have a lot to do with that.

Went to a gun show on Saturday and took my CZ p10-c and the M&P 22 full size auto to trade if I found what I wanted. There it was a Ruger Mini 14 NIB with the wooden stock for the best price I've seen. When inspecting it was Death Valley dry. There wasn't a bit of lube anywhere. It was so dry that the slide was dragging. So I cleaned it and went over it silicone cloth and lightly oiled the moving parts. Pretty easy to break it down after you learn what and where the fiddly bits are.

Now it's Monday and I have to try it out. Ran a 100 rounds through it and twice 3 rounds into a mag it failed to eject. I wouldn't say it's the mag but they were the only thing that wasn't cleaned. I'll do that tonight and dip a Qtip in some chrome molly lube and give the parts that rub together a light coat. Here's how it did shooting. I was sitting down with a bag at the front for support. Not great but not bad for the first time out. I had forgotten how much I like peep sights but 64 year old eyes with floaters and bifocals won't help your group size. There'll be a Nikon P-223 3-9x40 BDC 600 Matte added in a short while to help my tired eyes. I already have the 22LR version of the scope on my CZ 455 and it's a dandy. here's a picture of the target. Fun gun to shoot. The two FTE don't bother me as I think with use it will quit.

Top left is 20 rounds at 30' to get the feel.

Then to the bottom left 20 rds at 60' the adjust sights bottom right 20 at 60' looked pretty good

Now to the middle right at 75' feet it opened up but that was me the middle left as fast as I could get back on target.

Outstanding acquisition! Those are a lot of fun.

I've found that sometimes the round retaining ears at the top of the magazines can bend and cause FTEs as the spent case isn't allowed to go as far back as it needs to.

Also, check to make sure your followers aren't cocked slightly in the magazine.

Congrats on the new firearm.

Super plinker Yamaki, 20” free floated build I just finished. Gotta head to the range with some 69 gr SMK and see what it’ll do.

My pistol.
