Revox A77 MKIIImeter question

Probably a dumb question but shouldn't the meters swing during playback on my Revox A77 mkIII? I picked this up a couple years ago, bought the replacement motor caps from Nagravox (which I haven't gotten around to installing yet). Deck works fine, sounds great. Just curious why the meters don't move during playback.

Maybe I should clarify. I'm referring to when I play a pre-recorded tape like the RCA 4-track tape of the BSO playing Kodaly's suite from "Harry Janos" I was listening to earlier.. The VU meters do not move at all. Are they only supposed to indicate level during recording? This would be contrary to my Pioneer RT707 and RT1020L machines and, my Akai GX-635D..

Meters only indicate when recording. A 77 Mk IV was the exception and B 77 and B 77 Mk II, in terms of ReVox.
