Jolida Glass FX III DAC tube recommendations

I did find a few Tube dacs that achieved 124db. Plenty of other faults with tubes but dynamic range has never been one of them. Someday I can afford a $10,000 DAC but even then I probably wouldn't be that insane, Jolida and Sonica is good enough ;)

I'm a fan ASR. Great site for real measurements. No Jolida listed though.

Jolida Glass FX III DAC tube recommendations

I put in the long plate RCA 12ax7s this morning and have been really enjoying them. These might be the keepers. At first I lost a channel, I used a small tool to tighten to pin sockets up and the channel came back. I think the pins on the vintage tubes are a tad thinner than the new ones and the...

Do you know that as a fact or just guessing? One thing the Oppo has over the Jolida is the absolute silent background. This is an advantage of modern solid state ICs, for sure. >90db isn't terrible but it can be better. But the DR being limited by tubes is not even close to true. DR of...

Jolida Glass FX III DAC tube recommendations

Just be careful when swapping tubes on the Jolida as the tube sockets are mounted on the curcuit board and you'll need to be careful not to crack the the solder joints. That's my biggest complaint about this dac..The sockets should be chassis mounted.

Jolida Glass FX III DAC tube recommendations

Funny you should ask, Part of my boredom remedy during this pandemic has been tube rolling, I've mostly been playing with my mc240 and have not been messing around with the Jolida much as of yet, but will be doing some tonight and this week. I've just moved from sovtek 5751 to JJ ECC83s today. I...

Jolida Glass FX III DAC tube recommendations

Tubes have greater dynamic range than most transistors/op-amps due to higher operating voltages and overload tolerance. The false information in here is sad. Tubes are not a limiting factor for DR, never have been, never will be. One of the issues with many Tube DACs is they they are just...

Replaced the bulbs in my MX132

I removed the screws from the cover and it wont budge. Is it a matter of yanking on it? Do I pull back or up?

    MX132 Bulbs

I have a blown bulb in the mx132 in the upper left side. I found some pictures and it doesn't look to difficult to replace. I ordered a new bulb but I can't seem to be able to get the cover off. I removed all the screws and was able to slide it back about 1/8" then it gets stuck, I don't want to...

McIntosh CD Players, worth their asking price?

Doesn't the mac6700 have a built in DAC? Get decent transport. The Shanling PCD3000a is a surprisingly good transport and does very well using the digital output. I've used it on my mx132 and several other DACs. It sounds better than when I used my old Sony DVD player as a transport but most of...

    Belles Aria or Krell S-3001

I've owned the Belles A150 and the 400 and liked them very much. I'm in rochester so Belles is a local manufacturer and I may be biased but I always regard these amps as top performers that tend to fly under the radar. I good friend of mine just got the Aria and we have been putting though it...

Recapping Cambridge Audio 640P Phono Preamp

When I said I was done tinkering, I lied. I've replaced the odd resistor combo for 91r with a pair of Shinko 68r tantalum a and put in the Ad823 and let that settle in for a bit. This gave me a slight increase in volume and a cleaner signal overall. I the AD823 give it a slightly more laid back...

Mcintosh MX 110 preamp/ tuner blown transformer help

Did you notice less humm when you replaced those resistors? I rebuilt mine a year ago and it also tested high voltage (just about 12% above what it should IIRC) it's had just a bit a hum, since. I've ordered a set of 1.5k 1.8k and 2k 2watt resistors that to replace and am finally getting around...

Recapping Cambridge Audio 640P Phono Preamp

I powered it up and let us sit for a moment while checking the heat and no issues. Has been running for a day now. Without fault. Avoiding temptations to keep going. New op amps should be in tomarrow. I also ordered some opa2132s to try out. New power regulators came in today. I bought them just...

Recapping Cambridge Audio 640P Phono Preamp

Went through and double checked the joints remelting the solder in a bunch of spots and reseated the op-amps. I think that did it. No issues and sounds very good. Colexico is almost inthe room with me.

Recapping Cambridge Audio 640P Phono Preamp

I'm getting an intermittent scruffily noise noise out of one channel. What could that be? Week solder point perhaps? It reminds me of my old mini millet max that would do that sometimes and I'd tap on it till it went away.

Recapping Cambridge Audio 640P Phono Preamp

Works! I put the NE5532s back in the output for now. Ordering a new set of LM4562's and some OPA2134's to try out. I'm currently using the AD823 in the input. Now I have to wait till tomorrow for critical listening when my wife isn't spleeping! :) I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to all...

Hmm go figure. I pulled the op amps and it seem that maybe one was toast. I replaced the offending op amp that was in the output stage with one of the original ones and I get 18v and the relay kicks on.

Fortunately the op amps are on dip adapters so that will at least be easy.
