    Connecting old Infinity IRS servo

Interesting, it's dead quiet when turning on, I re-checked the cabling and put a passive XLR-XLR volume knob inbetween the SCU and the LF amp, turned everything on, then increased the volume on the LF amp and it seem to work now. p.s Does anyone know what the thread size is on the original...

    Connecting old Infinity IRS servo

Sounds like it was a case of the runaway protection kicking in, indeed. Thankfully the speakers and SCU are the later 'A' revision that should've fixed the most major issues. I did check the manual, however I just noticed the L-R channel markings are a bit counter intuitive - the manual expects...

    Connecting old Infinity IRS servo

Hi guys, I need some help regarding connecting a pair of old IRS Epsilons to the SCU and amps. I have everything connected via XLR but almost immediately after the bass amp powers up, I get a thump from both woofers and the servo shuts down. I've owned these in the past but never encountered...

    Mark Levinson 331 cap failure

Sorry to dig up a 5 yo thread but people still look up info on those and this is one of the first topics to pop up through Google! The black puddle is most probably not the electrolyte from the cap...ML 33x series used a rubber dampening strip at the top of the amp that turned into black...

    Kensonic/Accuphase owners show your stuff.

It sure is, you need more for fast peak transients but a well designed amp like Accuphase should cope with them without problems. Will be ordering DAC50 today, way to get rid of all cable clutter :)

    Kensonic/Accuphase owners show your stuff.

It's class A but has a hidden trick, when pushed it goes from 30W/8 Ohm Class A up to 75W/8Ohm in Class AB. As usual with Accuphase, the speces are severely underrated.

    Need a preamp for M100's

Guys, what balanced preamp would you use with a pair of M-100's? Preferably Accuphase and it must have a remote. Was thinking about the C-250 but also about ARC LS-15 (roughly the same price as the 250), or maybe a BAT?

    Epsilon front grilles removal

Phew, after a whole day fight with the front grille I finally got it off without damaging anything. It really IS made to make people keep off it. Anyway the UHF/HF/MF panels still look good and the "12 looks as good as new after cleaning. There is a kind of very strong rubber adhesive tape...

    Epsilon front grilles removal

It's the late(st) version, under the Infinity logo it also says ''Harman International" These also came with "A" upgrade from the factory.

    Epsilon front grilles removal

Good to know, thank you! I noticed that one speaker is a bit older (yet they are both marked A and B) and has the older style brass cover at the back. Technically they seem identical, both the servo and accelerometers are "A" version.

    Epsilon front grilles removal

Thank God it's just an upgrade, not a repair. Followed the steps to the A conversion and it corresponds to the current state of the SCU unit. Also just out of curiosity - will the SCU still run properly as an active crossover without the servo cables attached?

    Epsilon front grilles removal

Hi Greg, Thank you for your reply, I was 'afraid' that the woofer runs through an active crossover. I also have to check the SCU as there are 2 trace mods close to the TL074 that are the closest to the IN/OUT-puts. Could've been the "A" upgrade but I have to check it out. What kind of load do...

    Epsilon front grilles removal

I need to clean (probably wash) the front covers on my Epsilons, how do I remove them? Can I use both the RCA and XLR connectors of the SCU? Let's say XLR in from the preamp, XLR out to the bass amp but RCA out to the mf/hf amp? Edit: Found out how to remove the grilles. BTW, can the...

    Help in idenifying RCA 6CG7

Hello fellow AK-ers! I recently bought a pair of tubes that are supposed to be side gettered 6CG7 RCA cleartops but can you tell me whether it's a US or a BR made tube and what year (approx.) they date from? They do sound marvellous compared to modern 6CG7s

    How would these two compare?

Well, this may sound crazy but I'm very curious how these two pairs of speakers compare: B&W 802 Nautilus (1st gen, 1998 with aluminium tweeter) against '80s JBL 4344? I own the B&W's but I the JBL's are still a kind of dream speaker to me  It is probably comparing apples to oranges...

    Yamaha PC5002M extremely rare

Got my 5002M back from repairs today, mine is being used with B&W Nautilus 802 speakers, the lows are superb but there is space for improvements in the mid/hi section as I can slightly hear that kind of PA-sound that I heard with other professional amps like the P2200 or Urei 6260. The first...

Your Favorite Audio Piece -STRICTLY BY LOOKS

McIntosh MC2300, loved the looks, sadly it was not really my kind of sound. Phase Linear amps look great to me (these big VU meters ) I own a mint condition 400 series1 with matching 2000 preamp:

    Just picked upa Yamaha P-2200

Ah a good ol' Yamaha pro amp, I used to own a P2200 paired togrther with NS1000M speakers, great sound - uncolored, very tight and precise. The only con I could find with the 2200 was the "thump" while powering the amp on and off, that is (I guess) quite typical for an amplifier without output...

Hum/Buzz in one channel Krell KSA200

Hello guys, Since a few weeks my Krell 200B (old beast) has a hum/buzz in the right channel which slowly disappears after a few seconds after turning the amp on and it gets perfectly quiet. It is always the right channel, I tried different cables, music sources, speakers but the hum is still...

    McIntosh MC2300 TLC

I got the amp back yesterday, nicely restored with On-Semi MJ15003's. Stereo/mono switch and both pots are replaced. Bias section was indeed bad, everything is repaired now. Cooling circuit wasn't temperature controlled so the fan speed fixed on 30% or you can switch it to 100% with an added...

Stuff like this really ticks me off!

This is my MC2300 which is currently being restored, just look at this mess: https://picasaweb.google.com/113866476427071010829/McIntoshMC2300?authuser=0&feat=directlink It seems that the temp. sensing section broke down so some "specialist" connected the fans to the stereo mono switch with a...

Do you think this is salvageable?

It can be fixed you have to keep in mind that it could happen because of the age of this reocorder, I gues it's made somewhere from the 60's?
