Affordable used Oppo BDP 83 replacement is?

Eagles: I suggest you save yourself some grief and go to Oppo's website and set up a return to them of your BDF-83. They are fast and not at all expensive and they are, of course, expert at this kind of repair. Good Luck. Mike

Opinions on buying a used Oppo

Folks: I have several Oppo disc players. I bought a new Oppo BDP83 which plays everything but 4K UHD video discs back when Blu-ray was the best quality. I bought the 205 as Oppo was getting out of the disc player business. It plays CD, SACD, DVD-Audio, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD discs. In...

    Hearing Aid Advice?

I bought a pair of Widex HAs for over $5,000 (with all the bells and whistles) from a "specialist" who claimed she was a recording engineer before she went to school to become a licensed audiologist. She showed me charts and graphs supposedly illustrating that these Widex HAs (which were...

    Internet Radio Stations

I would recommend "Jazz Groove" out of San Francisco. They are a not-for-profit group that has several streams of very good quality across several genres and for $120/year, they have a streaming option that doesn't have ANY recruiting messages or ads. The quality of their DJing is also very...

I lost my HiFi virginity at a young age. How old were you?

When I was seven years old, my Dad got a VM console with a built in speaker and a remote speaker that was placed about ten feet away. The console had a record player and an FM stereo radio plus an RCA input which my Dad hooked up a Saab reel to reel. I became my Dad's stereo apprentice because...

    Any OPPO 83 owners here?

I wouldn't assume that Oppo is or isn't doing repairs. I have several Oppo players that I have collected over the years and when issues have arisen, Oppo has always provided courteous, timely and reasonably priced service. Email them. Good luck. Mike

    Seeking Integrated pre/amp/streamer

I think there are several configurations possible but the costs are all over the place. Ideally, about how much are you thinking of spending? It would also help to know what speakers you have and if you are going to keep them. How big a room are you going to put your gear in? Mike

Interesting Stereo Ads? Post a pic for memory lane's sake.

Yeah, I had one too until my divorce when my wife, out of spite alone, got it... Sigh. She took the SP-2500s and the rear channel speakers too (can't remember the model number [SF-2 or something like that] but they were two 12" speakers, one pointing up, one down and a tweeter). i don't miss...

Antique Sound Lab AQ 1005 DT biasing instructions

opnly: So all I have to do issue the switch the above the LED screen to select one or the other of the 300B tubes and adjust the "bias" switch until the LED reads 700 or slightly under that. Do the same for the second 300 B tube. Leave the amp on for a half hour and do it again. Correct...

Antique Sound Lab AQ 1005 DT biasing instructions

opnly: The toggle above the LED selects which tube I'm testing. Below the LED there is a "DIRECT" toggle switch which is either up or down. I don't know what that does. SO it seems that if the LED reads the bias, I don't need a mm or any leads, I just read the LED. Is that correct? Thanks, Mike

Antique Sound Lab AQ 1005 DT biasing instructions

Folks: I have an AQ 1005 DT integrated amp that I should like to set the bias on but, somewhere in the last three house moves, I have misplaced the instructions that I was given by the seller lo these many moons ago. The amp has no built-in meters and needs to be tuned a bit. There was I would...
