    Quad VA One

I’ve been listening to this for a few days in a bedroom system driving Ryan R610’s and I have to say I’m loving it so far. It’s been a while since I have listened to tubes, but the warmth and sense of space along with such a spooky rendering of voices is very appealing to me. I was a little...

    Some basic streaming questions

I have been using Sonos for several years and have enjoyed it’s intuitive app. My primary source for Music is Tidal Hifi, with a smattering of Sirius, my own rips, and internet radio. What's bothering me is that Sonos doesn't allow me to take advantage of hi-rez. I was thinking about changing...

Dahlquist DQ-28 $325 Syracuse, NY Craigslist

One of the cabinets is a little beat up and it was difficult to judge them hooked up to a Pioneer HT receiver that was having problems of its own. Seller was pretty firm on price so I took a pass.

Going to listen to them today. If in nice shape, any idea about a fair price? $250?

    Rega DAC Frequency indicator

I just bought a used Rega DAC and was wondering why the frequency indicator shows 44.1k - 48k when I stream internet radio and Sirius XM through my Sonos via coax connection. I always thought that these formats streamed at much lower rates...

New grills for Rectilinear III lowboys

Your absolutely right, nude is the way to go because those grills seem to block the highs. Looking at them that way was my motivation for making the new grills.

New grills for Rectilinear III lowboys

I have owned the RIII's for some time and have come to realize a few things about them. I have tried every imaginable combination, high power, low power...mine sound best in a smaller room and not pushed too hard. My best experiences in this scenario have been with the H/K 430, Marantz 1070 and...

New grills for Rectilinear III lowboys

I did drill into them. I'm not worried about resale because I don't think I'll ever sell them. I'm sure you could do Velcro corner pieces.

New grills for Rectilinear III lowboys

Here is the link for the kit I used. I also ordered the fabric and a second set of corner pieces from PE. http://www.parts-express.com/parts-express-speaker-grill-frame-kit--260-346

New grills for Rectilinear III lowboys

The crossovers were recapped a few years ago and they sound terrific. Matched with the Marantz, it is my favorite system to listen to.

New grills for Rectilinear III lowboys

I was never happy with the lattice grills on my lowboys. So, I bought a kit from parts express and built new grills this weekend. Thought I would share this pic as the project was pretty simple. I really like the way they turned out. This kit would work best on large speakers.

    A nice pair...

I've been away from the vintage game for a couple of years, but recently converted my upstairs office to a little music room, so I moved my Rectilinear lowboys up there and posted a wanted ad on CL for a integrated amp. I got a response from a fellow who wanted to buy a shotgun for hunting...

Maranz 1070/1060 pre out/main in board

I just received a 1070 integrated with a couple of loose female RCA inputs on the pre out/main in board. Does anyone know if a 1060 board can be used in it's place?

Yeah, I miss Gordon's and Clark Music. Love Genesis speakers...the 2's are amazing speakers that are real sleepers.

    Speakers for a difficult room

Not using the Rectilinear IIIs in that room mostly an aesthetic thing; those grilles scream 1970's and look out of place in a more modern room. Besides, they sound perfect where they are. I was thinking along the lines of a stout floor stander; I saw a pair of Advent Legacy's on CL this am and...

    Speakers for a difficult room

I have considered DB in the past, but I have to admit that I'm not crazy about filling this particular room with 2,3 or even 4 subwoofers. It wouldn't look good and would be expensive. But, I get your point that it might be the most effective solution. Thanks for the suggestion. I wonder if a...

    Speakers for a difficult room

No chance for room treatments. Agreed that tone controls are not a cure all, just would be the least expensive way to add a little warmth. Some integrateds like Arcam and NAD do a pretty good job of adding a little boost without detriment.

    Speakers for a difficult room

I have never been happy with the sound that I get in my family room. It is 12 x 20, but I believe the problem is that the ceiling rises from 7.5 feet to 12 feet. I have run small speakers (Rega RS1s) with a Hsu subwoofer for a while now but music lacks body when played at lower volumes, which is...

Polk Monitor series - which one?

Wow, I'm a little surprised, but appreciative, of the opinions expressed. Was looking to try a pair as I was curious, but I'm thinking of passing now. There's a lot of experience on this board and it's nice to be able to tap into it.

Polk Monitor series - which one?

Which ones should I be looking for? My room is not huge, but is bass challenged due to the 12' cathedral ceiling. Should I be looking for 5's, 7's, 10's...I've read that the 12's could be muddy, but not sure if that's true. Any suggestions?

    Polk Monitor 5 (Series 2)

Pair in black ash locally for $125 in good shape. Haven't owned Polks since the early 90's (RTA 15TL). Are these decent speakers? What is the going price for this model? Thanks...
