    Cant remember this speaker manufacturer

Oh yeah, definitely is different. Hence the "finding the "right" one" comment. Would take a lot of poking around, studying specs, and probably even modeling in bassbox (or something similar) to make sure it would function properly and sound decent. A lot of subs will play up fairly high...

    Show us your Technics stuff

Those honeycomb floor standers are beautiful! I had a pair of woodgrain towers back in the 90s with a 7in honeycomb woofer and that odd, round, cheese grater looking tweeter. Cant find the model or pics anywhere on the net, and Im kicking myself for not keeping them. They sounded great! Sent...

Finally found an AVR that's Musical

The m-60 is on my list of possible replacements for my Kenwood (it has an intermittent issue that i can't seem to track down). But so are the Yamaha AVRs from the mid-late 90s. Quite good and inexpensive...for the time being. Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk

    Cant remember this speaker manufacturer

Good to know, thanks. There's a ton of shallow mount car subs that may work in place, just have to find the "right" one. Thats right, they never made a 12in version, did they? Probably because it'd be quite large. Dont know the dimensions in the 10in version, but I suspect a 12in version would...

Cap questions for an old Zenith radio

Geez, I haven't seen wax caps since my old amateur radio days, they gotta go as mentioned. Hot chassis.... eek! Careful. Disc caps stay good forever. Rarely do they go bad. The IF cans have a little "screw" inside for tuning, hence the small hole on top. Just in case you were curious. As old as...

    Cant remember this speaker manufacturer

If you googled design acoustics for our site here at AK, you'll actually find quite a few threads regarding them. I wouldn't mind a pair of the old funky blue dodecahedral model. But if I recall they didn't make too many of those and probably fetch a pretty penny in good shape these days Sent...

    Cant remember this speaker manufacturer

Currently not at the moment. But I wouldn't mind in the near future a pair for my desk. It's been years since I have heard a pair, but the ones my uncle had where the PS 10. Back then I had just gotten into home audio, and absolutely love the way they sounded for their size. Yep, foam...

    My first JBLs, LL10s :)

Nice find! I had some LX400s back around 1994. And while they weren't JBLs TOTL model, they sounded pretty good for what they cost. Much better than many similar costing speakers I had tried. Sadly, my ex-wife got them, and my Cerwin Vegas, in our divorce. Id like to pick up another, older...

    Cant remember this speaker manufacturer

Back when I got into audio real big as a teenager (90s), there was a manufacturer that made some decent speakers. But what made them stand out to me, was the woofer location. They were mounted in the bottom of the cabinet, firing downward. These weren't subs, but full range, bookshelf size...

Finally found an AVR that's Musical

I understand the hearing issues. Back in the mid/late-90's, I was into car audio real big. Ran 4-12in JL subs...in an Escort. Ran them 2ohm bridged on a Phoenix Gold amp. Metered around 147db...which was quite respectable, and hard to achieve, back then. Nowadays its easy to hit SPL like that...

Finally found an AVR that's Musical

Love my 1988 Kenwood. One of best sounding AVRs I've ever owned. I'm seeing some older JVC stuff that seems very well built. Its slowly creeping up my list of mid-80s to 90s gear that I need to look into more. Your post helps that. Thanks for sharing! 2ohms?! Yikes man...must be some serious...

    Computer tech's setup

I remember these days. Then I started a family, and moved to three different states. Sold most of my gear then, was too much hassle to move it all. Now settled down back here in MI, I just have a simple setup consisting of an old, beefy, Kenwood AVR from 1988 and Infinity IL40s. All music is...

    Friday TimeFrame Find

Im jealous! Congrats! I frequent two SA stores down here in the Detroit/Redford/Livonia area quite frequently. I've never seen anything other than cheap/garbage speakers for the aforementioned $20. One exception was about 2 months ago. There was a pair of floor speakers ,acoustic design maybe...

Helping those in need.....can AK'ers help a little?

I hope Im not in violation of any rules. :/ Since we were children, Ive always watched over my little sister, protected her, and helped her in any way possible. Yesterday, my her house caught fire. Now she and my nephew have no home. She was renting, just moved in maybe a month ago, and hadnt...

    original Bose 301s worth restoring?

Back when I sold AV equipment, I actually preferred the sound of the 201s compared to the 301s. Dont recall what series they were though. Its too bad the GW manager wouldnt negotiate. Ive never tried to negotiate at GW, but have had luck at the local Salvation Army store.

What music does your dog hate?

The cats hate all loud music. Not surprising. Never occured to me that pet snakes and spiders would be effected by LF. But they are sensitive to vibration, so makes sense.

    original Bose 301s worth restoring?

I agree Rich. Having sold some of their products back in the 90s, I was never really impressed by them. Don't get me wrong, there are two or three models of speakers they put out that actually sounded pretty good. Otherwise, I don't really care for their products.

Is it OK to be an audiophile and not care about sound quality of the media?

99.8% of my collection is mp3. Then one day I found a ripped version of Pink Floyd - The Wall. It was ripped to FLAC, from vinyl that had only been played 2 or 3 times prior. I decided to convert a couple songs to 320, cbr, no joint stereo, mp3 for comparison. The difference was still quite...

ID these old RCA studio monitors from 1956...

The white "thing"? Appears to be either a dehumidifier, portable air conditioner, or air purifier. Those speakers are pretty cool looking. Wouldnt mind a pair of just empty cabs.

    original Bose 301s worth restoring?

Ive had good luck bartering prices at the thrift store in the past. Usually need to find the manager though. IMO, the 301s were one of the better sounding speakers Bose made. for $20-30, Id go for it.
