Well, the Magnavox has lasted 5 decades and still sounds wonderful and should last another 5 decades when refreshed. A solid chassis and plenty of room to work in. With some work it can look as nice as most amps.

Loudness really depends on the speakers... It's really for low level listening.

Use a Variac. Keep it simple.. Monitor the 6.3 heater voltage

I use a C1 kenwood and did the DRM cap & op amp upgrade. It did take it a step up and I really enjoy it. I would recommend both upgrades. I also had a NAD 1130 that made me happy....Cheers

I don't make complicated projects! I use my old wooden ruler to get things placed right. I want to do it myself. Those step drills are awesome.... I also believe in Alien's.

Having difficulty finding one....One channel drops out when ever it wants. I did spray and it lasted a while but needs to be replaced. I wonder if the preamp really needs a relay. If I turn it on before the amp and the amp off first maybe I could ditch the relay? Your thoughts?

They are not ribbons or AMTs. They are planars. I don't know why they use AMTs for description. I find it deceptive. I would mount vertical for horizontal dispersion. But that's just my understanding of the beast. Have fun and tell us of your findings.

Is it possible to get a butter knife to pry it open? or some sticky tape on the draw and pull on it when to press the eject button... I can feel the frustration

I have rebuilt a pair and was very impressed. Repainted transformers & chassis. A very worthy project. Output are 4 ohm but don't seem fussy.

I would recommend a Magnavox stereo tube amp... for low cost good sound.

You don't need an old socket... Just wire the diodes across the rectifier socket and your done.

Don't hesitate to install a smaller fuse for some projects. And watch the amp meter that will indicate a short.
