Luxman M-05 left channel volume few db less than right channel

This amp is a pain to work on. I had done a recap about 10yrs back, used Nichicon KZ muse series. Decided to check all the caps and replaced them with Vishay BC series 105C. 3 caps on the main board of the weaker channel measured around 150uf instead of 220uf. Assembled back together and voila...

Luxman M-05 left channel volume few db less than right channel

Some progress, I have the amp on the bench and everything is perfect. Playing through my laptop both left and right channel are matched in volume. However, when connecting to my preamp( and I tried 2 preamps and different rca cables) the left channel volume is weaker. The preamps connected with...

Luxman M-05 left channel volume few db less than right channel

One more thing I noticed, hopefully will be pointing me in the right direction. When activating the "standby" switch, some low volume distorted sound keeps coming on the left channel (the low volume one). I have replaced the relays on both PSU boards. Will replace the relays on left main amp...

Luxman M-05 left channel volume few db less than right channel

Hi, I have some issues with my Luxman M-05. The amp was not used for sometime, after turning on recently the left channel volume is considerably less than the right channel. The amp was recapped a few years back, and all supply voltages and bias measure correctly. I am using the direct in...

Yamaha B2 - the "why" and the "how" of a comprehensive rebuild

@rottalpha provided the caps and I think they were the type II You will need 50mm max diameter on the caps. The ones that will fit are either type I or type II Type III is 63mm and will not fit

Yamaha B2 - the "why" and the "how" of a comprehensive rebuild

Forgot to mentioned that also replaced the dual input jfets on the drivers board. The completed B-2 has the Toshiba dual fet from Pete. And loving that selector board

Yamaha B2 - the "why" and the "how" of a comprehensive rebuild

One of the lucky ones that just finished a B-2 for a fellow here down under with all 3 boards upgrade from @rottalpha. Amazing work everything laid up beautifully and the boards are top quality. I have been lucky enough to have a few Yamaha Vfets go through my hands and own all the B's(although...

Keeping the crossover original. Ideally would like to install a switch that enables use of internal crossover or bypasses the crossover and enables use of external crossover powering each driver separately.

@Dr.EarThank you for the info and pic. So the old ones just unscrew out? Don't need to get behind(inside enclosure)

Very nice system 808_state. Love the NS-2000. Anyone changed the binding posts on them? Thinking to convert mine to better connectors.

    Luxman C-5000A preamp.

Listening to it right now :music: and I agree 100% I am done with mine (minus the relay on the PSU board)Didn't used it for sometime, balance pot was a little scratchy but after a back and forth a few times its ok now. The EQ On/OFF switch on mine was completely stuck. The spring inside when the...

    Luxman C-5000A preamp.

That bypass button is sticky. I had to deal with mine also. You have to be really gentle on operating it. The relay on the right PSU board is unknown and have not been able to find. The one on the output is the same with this 24V TAKAMISAWA RY24W-K RELAY Miniature High Sensitive 1A. Just changed...

Sony TA-8650 restoration, expert advise needed

After restoration I have biased mine at around 65mV. The preamp is a little noisy but has a beautiful airy sound. If you connect just the power amp with a better preamp the power side is very very quiet. As for the speaker connectors I agree. Can easily install better option though

    B-2 Parts

Tough crowd indeed. And you managed to squeeze a FW in the middle.. Was lucky enough to get one of the kits of the DIY Sony Vfet. Beautiful delicate sound, but the black beauties reign supreme. BX-1's are in my list

Yamaha B1 works but the left channel is cold

I would listen to the wise advise of Vint Age and rottalpha, to save the precious V-fets. this amp will need a complete rebuild of the power supply/protection boards, replacement of the big filtering caps and then you can dive in the driver boards. Would be best to send the amp or at list the...

    B-2 Parts

A good clean will last a couple of years or more with no issues. I have found suitable sealed volume pots but have yet to experience sound difference bypassing the switches and volume pots. The work is tedious but if patient and have the right tools it is not very hard Still waiting for...

Sony TA-8650 restoration, expert advise needed

Update on the Sony! One more fault developed on the preamp side, and was the IC BX269A (big green encapsulated) Lucky I had a spare... I have seen the BX-270 replaced with off the shelf components, but not the BX-269A. No issues on the power amp side so far

Yamaha C2A preamp: another thread about crackling and popping

Great threat. The C-2a I am trying to repair had one more fault and it was not the resistors. Only on phono settings occasional loud pop was happening. I traced the issue at the big blue film caps (0.33uf)
