Spindle length is not as important as stylus rake angle. I stack thurst plates in the platter well and sometimes in the tonearm well depending on cartridge dimensions or platter mat thickness, etc. It's an ingenious design that facilitates tonearm height adjustment. Having different thrust plate...

    Stanton 681EEE and PL-518 advice

Hi Stanton681, you can also use the Pickering XV-15 stylus on your Stanton 681 cartridge. The carts are shaped different but are the same internally. Moving Iron, not moving magnet. I use mine without the brush.

I have pre-ordered records. Especially if it's a limited edition and will go fast.

How did it track on the Side Two horizontal and lateral compliance tracks? That will tell you which cart works the best with the XB's arm. The cart that wiggles the least or wiggles just around 10Hz is the one I would go with.

The most distinct sound (dare I say) in all of jazz....

Plus 1 for Sonny Sharrock. Although, he came to me through the rock idiom, with my love for anything Bill Laswell. I must throw Sun Ra into the discussion, as well. Talk about a distinctive jazz sound.

    Cleaning vinyl

I often spot clean stubborn debris and fingerprints on the surface of the record with straight isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth or soft brush first, before going to the ultrasonic bath. Any residual chemical left on the vinyl should come off in the solution. The ultrasonic cleaner will...

PATRICK COWLEY "MEGATRON MAN" LP1981 MEGATONE M 1002 Real excited to find this! Think of Patrick Cowley as 'the american Giorgio Moroder'. Mutant underground 80s electronic disco... He died way too early, during the first wave of the AIDS epidemic. His music reminds me of Moroder's style but...

SWELL MAPS "SWEEP THE DESERT"LP2000 Alive 0041-1 Posthumous release from 23 years ago. Not a bad listen but it sounds like this was culled from their first 3 records, so it's slightly familiar but pasted together to create a new product. Great pressing but this one is missing the booklet.

Who do you see/think had the greatest impact on music in the last 50 years?

Loopstick, streaming is something I didn't even consider because, well, I don't stream music...BUT YES!, my children do and other than Dad's weird records, only know their music from this format. Which, by the way, I am constantly being impressed by the width and depth of my daughter's musical...

Who do you see/think had the greatest impact on music in the last 50 years?

Great answer. I'd also include public radio, but radio only got the word out, they didn't actually make the music. Proto punk bands like The Velvet Underground and New York Dolls certainly influenced the late 70s punk bands that changed the way the music business operated at the time. It needed...

Do you ever sit in a spot other than your main listening position?

I've been through several iterations of speakers and speaker set ups, both stereo, surround and ambisonic. My current set up sounds the most consistent no matter where I sit or if I'm sitting or standing. I like that. Nothing bugs me more than the sound changing when I turn my head or lean...

Suggestions for songs with lots of double bass

RUDE SKOTT OSBORN TRIO "THE VIRTUE OF TEMPERANCE" LP2021 I keep coming back to this record, it's just easy to listen to! Great Scandinavian psych jazz. Martin Rude really works the double bass on this one.
